Local Locksmiths and Prices

Last summer, I had my local dealer (Acura of Concord, if you're interested) make me a new Driver 2 set of keys (immobilizer key + fob) because I bought the my TL used and the previous owner only gave me one set of keys.

Outrageous doesn't begin to describe the price - a total of $268 plus tax, as follows:

72147-SEP-A62 Transmitter $ 92.63 (driver 2)
35133-SEC-A01 Key, immobilize $ 45.34 (driver 2)
This is what kills me- labor $130.00
Total $267.97

I am kicking myself because I thought the stealership had me over a barrel, and they did nothing (of course) to disabuse me of the notion that they were the only people on earth capable of programming the keys.

If you have used a local locksmith to CUT an Acura immobilizer key and/or PROGRAM an Acura transmitter, please post the following to this thread:

1. The local locksmith's Name, Address, and Phone

2. Exactly what you had done and what it cost

3. How happy you were with the work

Thank you!

Hey, it could be worse- could have been a Mercedes or BMW key, which were $300+ for a single key only.
There were a couple of posts here where members were charged $90 or so to reprogram their TL remotes, too.

Dude, you got screwed, slightly. The Key does need to be programmed by an Acura or Honda dealer. All TL's 2004 and up require the key to be programmed in the car alond with the tablet (computer box that talks to your car, the same thing that will tell you why a "check engine" light is on). That does require a technician and they cost a good amount.

Any one can link the remote to the car. All you do is put the key in the ignition and turn it from off to the accessory position, then push any button on the remote then turn the key to the off position. You repeat this 4 times and you will hear your locks click. When you hear this click, you lock and unlock the doors with one remote, then the other and you're done.

In my area it only costs $35 to get the key and have it programmed.

I know what your getting at for the 07 keys. Down in SD there is only one locksmith that I have been able to find that can program Acura keys

Alcatraz Locksmith
416 Broadway
SD, CA

619-690-0000

The cost he said was $30-$35

He also told me that I had to bring the car and all other keys. I haven't had any work done, but I can't imagine it being less than standard.
