A list of things that make 3rd Gen TL feel not as refined as 2nd Gen

Yeah they're both nice looking cars. The interior on the 3rd gen blows the 2nd gen away, I just don't think the same is true for the exterior. I like the 3rd gen from every angle except the front, and that's where I prefer the 2nd gen.

Nobody will admit that his choice is imperfect in any tiny aspect, thats what happens in this board.
Buying an 30K+ car, we want it to be perfect. In addition to the nice interior, hp, styling, fancy gadgets, we want the 3rd gen TL to maitain all the refinement that are already on 2nd gen, right? But unfortunately some of those fine elements are missing.
Finally I realize that the nice look and fancy electronics only appeal to me for a short period, what really pleases me on everyday driving is the smoothness and tranquility of the car. Just like a gorgous looking girl only get you excited for a couple month, but to find a person to marry, you want to look for sombody who can make you feel peace, thats most important.

I don't know where you get the 2nd gen being so refined? They rattle and have squeaky sunroofs, the ride isn't as polished as the 3rd gen, the engine and road noise is higher than in the 3rd gen, etc. The 3rd gen IS more refined than the 2nd gen in just the same way the 7th gen Accord is more refined than the 6th.
That's just the way it is.

OK, my 2 cents....
I tried to resist this thread, but I fell off the caffeine wagon today and had an expresso at lunch....
1. Vibrations: ULEV does cause some vibration at idle and the turn over may seem to 'stumble' or thump on ignition. The ULEV is supposed to keep the emissions down (sacrificing some smoothness). When is a car typically most polluting? At ignition and at idle.
2. Ride: Acura intentionally designed the 3rdG TL to be more a handling sedan and less a luxo cruiser. I went to lunch with an associate who has a Porsche 911...it has NO suspension. The wheels are bolted on to the chassis. I lost my teeth fillings on the ride <explaining the expresso excuse>. All I can say is "Drive it before you buy it". Some like marshmallows, some like peanut brittle.
3. My trunk rattled from the Tag Bracket. I have since installed one of the sealed Weather Tech Frames with 4 screws. <THUNK>
4. Oh, forget it....

3. Trunk close:
05 TL trunk rattles when closing, making a very crappy sound, no matter how you tighten the liscense plate screw.
4. DVD slot door:
05 TL is a piece of foam, while 03 is an motorized plastic door.
5. Seatbelt lower anchor:
05 TL has them on the seat, causing it very easy to get caught when closing the doos, and sometimes get in the way people enter the seat. 03 TL seatbelt can completely hide away in the space btween seat and B pillar.
6. Ride:
05 TL transmitt every ripple on the pavement to the cabin, while 03 is a perfect blend of comfort and handling.
7. Stability:
Driving an 03 TL on the highway you can even release the steering wheel, and the car stay straight even when there is slight imperfection on the road. 05 TL not as stable and takes more effort to stay straight.
8. Vibration/ Idle:
05 TL has a tad more vibration at 1500 rpm, while 03 TL has the tranquility.
Anybody wants to add to the list?

Maybe they can go cruising with my parents...they're in their 60's and think their 00 TL is great! Dad even uses the sport shift sometimes

Not to get off topic, but I thought that was pretty funny. Now I think I have heard it all. Do you think you are going to find a woman that will make the rest of your life peaceful? Not only have I got a bridge in New York to sell you, I have a Buick that handles just like a 3G TL. Please send the check to ......

The last year of production for any car should be better than the first year of the following model. Sometimes you need time to work out the bugs. I've been told never buy a car in the first year of production.

The 3GTL actually wasnt too bad for a first year. The magnum we looked at had tranny problems, transfer case problems, and some other big thing which I can't remember now. The TL had butt prints and a few electrical quirks, and I believe a very minor tranny problem. The 08 3g will probably be pretty close to perfect.

I drive a 2nd gen, and i think the 3rd gen is more refined. Even pre-mods it was more refined I think. My TL makes some weird noises, I still love it though. I love the new ones, too. And i loved the first gen. Ahh, what can I say, i'm a sucker for those TLs

Man oh man do I love the rumble of my '05 when it starts up, lets me know I am sitting on some HP. The exhaust note at start up has got to be one of the sweetest things about that car, not to obnoxious, not to light in the pants.

05 is much better than the 2nd gen...if you dont think so, you should do what makes you happy and purchase a 2nd gen....
the only thing i dont like sometimes about the 05 is when it rains and i lift the trunk some water falls into the trunk...
but then again, 270HP + 6MT For The WIN ;-)

You've got to be kidding.
2nd gen says 'Hi'
3rd gen says 'sup'
3rd gen ASPEC says 'F*&K You'
too damn aggressive and so mean, sometime it scares me.

I've owned the 2G CL-S for 144,000 miles.
I've owned the 3G 6MT for 60,000 miles
I now have a 3G TL-S AT.
I've only got one question: are you f_____king serious?
Words come to mind: refinement, technology, suspension improvements. I could go on, but it would only feed the absurdity of this thread.

It alls boils down to "who gives a f*ck" what's yours is yours and what's mine is mine. I love my 2g even if it's less refined than a 3g. There are always ways to tune your car to make it better. Cars will get more refined from gen to gen so it's not gonna be surprising that the 4g is going to be 10x "better" than the previous.

Well, I have had the 2G TL-S for about 5 1/2 years and the 3G TL-S for about 3 months. I believe I am properly qualified to offer an opinion on the topic of this post: "A list of things that make 3rd Gen TL feel not as refined as 2nd Gen"

I was developing some arthritis in my clutch knee, so I decided on the auto.
Do I regret it? In some ways yes. The weight distribution is better with the manual, and IMO you can feel the difference in handling. Also miss the LSD (limited slip differential).
BUT, I am less prone to road rage, and more relaxed. I am also of the opinion that the manuals will seriously diminish the resale value in a very few short years, due to the popularity of paddle shifters, variable ratio transmissions, etc.,which don't need a clutch. I plan on holding on to this one for many years......they are just getting too expensive to replace without a really good reason.

Man I am torn .. LOL
I've had a 00TL for 130k (still going strong) and type-s for 3k. Both are my kids .. can't really say one is way better over the other one ... 2G has a better aerodynamic flow (to my eyes) yet 3G looks a lot more aggressive .. performance 3G .. MPG goes to 2G ... 2G has wood & 3G has carbon fiber ... 3G has bluetooth and larger Navi screen ... overall 3G has the edge ... that's why we keep on getting new toys, right folks?
