Thumbs up Lights were in the oven &....

well after reading somany posts and viewing pictures of the blackout/cleared headlights threads,, i decided, why not try it,, and it's coming out amazing i started late in the day yesterday due to work, got the bumper off, headlights out, headlights apart, painted hardest part of all this so far was masking off the part in the diffuser area so that it would stay part chrome,, i think you guys call this V2 if i'm not mistaken,, i liked that look better,, rather than all clear, or all black out. Heres a pic of my car with no face!

Also,, pictured below my car is a taillight i've been experimenting with ( had my old 04 base taillights because i bought S-type taililights/markers). Anyway i was thinking what can be done to this rather than spraying it all black (not legal in nj) so i decided to to take the red outter lens off and see what i get,, let me just say this,, that outter red lens was NOT attached in the same manner as the headlights, PITA$$!!!! LOTS of cutting and sanding to get that off , one last thing , after you get the red lens off,, the taillights comes apart in 3 parts just by pulling them with some force, NOT TOO HARD,, the outter chrome piece, under that is a clear lens that covers the led board and such, and then the back that is houseing the led board and side marker.... take a look...

What would you guys do with the taillights that might make them look different but not cheesy. I was thinking just spray the the chrome piece in flat black with a clear coat? leave the rest of the tailights cleared and just put the respective colored bulbs in the sockets (i have led blinkers think it would look pretty cool no?
i'm going to follow up this thread with the finished product of my headlights and every thing back together once i'm done in a little while

It will look sweet with the lights cleared from the curved part out toward the ends.

almost done, final headlight is in the oven so i can reseal it, silicone, and reinstall it,, driver side is in,,
Also while i had the lights out and was waiting for time to pass during oven time, ha, i decided to look up the color mod i read about a few times,, found the diy and it was really easy,,, black plastic circle fell out of each unit,, that's about it, right?

Yeah that's the color mod, that's all you have to do. It's subtle but does some change and I think it's worth it. Hard to get a tool that reaches all the way in there. I guess it's easy if you do a disassembly for ZKWs. Color mod is something you might as well do while the headlights are out.

98% of the forum is going to say "huh????" because they don't know what it is, ("Search" people!) but I did it for my car and bforbrian's car, we both like it.

TrevorT and I were detailing our cars yesterday and we said that it would look sick if someone color matched that chrome (or black chrome in the TL-S) divider piece in the tails...I'd love to see someone try it.

Thumbs up Any questions PM me I have done about 6 pairs of the clear tail lights!

The Clear tailights crome trim can be painted with black gloss spray paint, krylon for plastic might be best, however once sealed the any spray paint will hold up well, just remember to do a light coat, if the paint is applied to heavy you will have problems.

Good Luck cant wait to see how they turn out!

Question, were did you cut the tail lights it looks like you cut them very close to the edge of the light. If this is the case make sure that epoxy job you do is strong as hell and you seal it with an extra coat of silicone. They tend to leak before long when the cut is made there because it is a weak spot and exposed to more direct weather.

yea pretty much what i did was cut as close as possible where the red outter lens met the housing, the painting came out fine and reassemly as well, it'w when i put it back together and saw that i need to do some heavy duty black silicone is where i thought,, fuck.... this is not gonna look right,, but it's just an experiment, the silicone didn't try smooth like i hoped,, i tryed to get it as smoothas possible but it looked like garbage,, so here are a few pics...

i'd really like for this to work still because i think it will compliment the theme i have going for the car,, black cleared headlights with tails to match on royal blue pearl,, all my sidemarkers are smoked ect. i still have the base original driverr side untouched, the one i worked on is pretty much useless, unless you know a way to make the outter part where the red lens attached look better?....

Thumbs up http://tl.acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=618762

No worries, you still have the Type-s tails untouched correct?

Just check my DYI to see exactly were I cut them.

Dont cops pull you over if you clear the corners and change the bulb? People have told me that they got pulled over several times with cleared corners. I want to clear my corners too but i would never clear them w/o installing the resistors that will change the bulb color while its blinking. That way its guaranteed that you'll never get a ticket. Anyone in ny who knows how to install the resistor?

By the way i think they will look sick and match the theme your headlights have. Are you going with the LED signals as well? I have white led sidemarkers switchback in the heads and led signals in the rear. They are definatly noticable.
