Lightening: Battery

My battery went dead today. I dont want to get a braile or a lightweight battery but the TL OEM batteries do have a big reserve on them. A friend of mine left the interior light in my car on for 3 days and the car started right up! Would a TSX or Civic battery work on our cars (smaller=less weight)? Any recommendations?

Get an Optima battery and call it a day.

From a value standpoint you can't beat costco. Quality product with hassle free exchanges. Every time I've taken a battery in they just give me a full refund and tell me to buy a new battery. I am sure they have civic sized batteries.

Thanks, I just want to make sure that the smaller batter would still be ok to use.

Studying what the criteria is, the stock battery from Acura is:
550CCA
110 RC

All the sc kits used a Civic battery, so it will be fine. I agree about Costco as the best way to go. I would stay away from Optimas completely, as their quality is very poor.

My battery looks like its still under warranty so I am going to go back to Acura and ask for the TSX battery. If the battery for the civic works Im sure the TSX battery would work as well. That should be good right? Looks like they get 500CCA and 85 reserve minutes where as mine as the amount stated above.

Get anything but Optima. If you're not running extra amps a smaller battery should be fine, but I would recommend adding extra grounds and an extra hot wire between the alt and battery so you get the max performance out of the charging system you have.

Yes, a few have gone with the TSX battery and it seems to work fine. I don't know how much lighter it is though.....

I love my Braille. Plenty of cranking power, even after two winters. But you definitely have to be cautious of its small reserve.

Ended up going with the Napa Legend
Group 35
625 CCA

Weighs 25 pounds

Factory Acura Battery
550CCA
weighs 43 pounds

18 POUNDS SAVED! Not bad for $100.

Absolute worst thing you could do from both a financial standpoint and a performance standpoint. Unfortunately Optima is cashing in on the old reputation. Any $60-$100 battery will outlast and outperform an Optima. Nothing they've made in the past 10 years or so is any good.
