I'm looking to install the LED strips in my footwells. I hope someone can help with the wiring.
I have 4 strips and plan to use them similar to Rockyfeller's---2 under the front dash and 2 under the front of the rear seat firing forward. I would like them to come on with the parking lights and have a switch in the dash. I have all the parts.
My question is about wiring. I have a lighted switch (2+/1- connections) from Oznium. So, I need to connect all 4 positive leads on the strips to the Accessory lead on the switch, all 4 grounds and the ground lead on the switch to a common ground, and the positive lead on the switch to the parking lights source.
Presuming my wiring design is correct, what is a suitable power source inside the car that goes hot with the parking lights? Also, where is the best common ground? I presume I could use the ground strap near the fusebox.
Finally, I plan to use CAT5 cabling for this project and use one pair of twisted wires for my Navtool video switch, running it from trunk to rear footwell lights (tapping 2 more pairs), then up center console to dash. The front lights will be wired separate. Will I be okay with this cabling?
What have you guys done? Any and all comments are appreciated.
