light films... pics? cops?
If a cop notices your tail lights or head lights havesmoked film like rockblocker sells do they pull you over more often? For instance dark tints always get more pullovers, just wondering if they get upset about filmed lights too?
I just ordered smoked headlight and tail light/side films from rockblocker to go with my new suntek 45% tints and hoping it will all mesh great on my WDP...
has anyone done the headlights before? I was debating between applying the film normally or cutting it (tho getting the shape right would be very hard) to film only the side blinkers, if that is even possible. Not sure I want the actual bright lights part to look smoked out.
I'd love to see pictures of the smoke film over headlights on a TL or similar car... anyone?

smoking ur tail lights i don't think will be a big problem, but the more modified ur car looks, the more attention it attracts, and when that one day comes when you get pulled over and get that pissed off cop thats having a terrible day......he'll give u a HUGE ticket.

I acuttally think tinted lights are safer than regular ones. The difference between lit up and unlit is huge, unlike when they aren't tinted, making it easier to tell. I'm sure you have all been behind cars in the right light where it is almost impossible to tell if their brake lights are on or not.

Cool I got the resident cop to post, flatfoot
Just wanted to say I'm not trying to upset anyone, including the police. I am hoping that police will be tolerant of my films so I am simply asking what police generally think of smoked films. If I find myself getting pulled for it I might have to remove them, not worth it to take up the police's time and my time. I don't want to do anything overtly illegal so hopefully this won't be a big deal. Some of you are scaring me though... heh.

The only thing I have illegal on my car is the side window tint. I'm not going to push my luck by somoking out the headlights/tailights. I haven't even taken the front license plate off. It's not worth it IMO.
Ten years ago I drove a heavily modified Honda Civic and I got pulled over quite a bit. I don't want to go through that again.

I have no front license plate (getting the domed decals for ACURA font... will look great), tints (which are legal in this state even front sides) and now smoked lights soon. Sigh. I am gonna get pulled I know it.
Do these offenses (smoked lights, no front plate) give you "points" or anything serious or just fines. If you repeatedly get ticketed does it get worse like for speeding or such?

[ so I am simply asking what police generally think of smoked films.
To tell you the truth, I dont even know too much about this. Believe me when I tell you, at least in nyc, we are so undermanned, and have so many things to do, smoked films at least for me, are not an item. If I can see your lights, thats all. If I cant, theres a safety problem of some sort.
When it comes to tints, thats another situation. If you cant see out properly when making turns at night, you run the risk of hitting an innocent person.
Also, when an officer has to make a stop, and cant see the occupants of a vehcile, that is a dangerous situation.
Remember, a vehicle is a two thousand pound object, traveling at high speed, and should be treated with respect, as to the damage it can do, to other people. If you have seen the mothers and fathers crying over their children, like I have seen, and the needless damage done, to peoples bodies, because someone wanted their car to "look cool", you might think twice about it.

I
Im getting the rockblocker kit as well. I think that these are small issues. I believe that it can and will be an issue when and if you get pulled over for something else. Its all going to be directly related to the severity of the offence you are getting pulled over for. I just dont think that smoked tails will get you pulled over.
I have to agree with Flatfoot here. I can tell you from the Pittsburgh, PA area here, and as a Sergeant myself, window tint is not a very large deal in itself. However, it goes without saying that when you drive on a daily basis, 8 hours - 16 hours a day, and see mostly 'factory' only type vehicles all day long, obviously a black bullet going by will bring some attention to yourself
.
There have been many a times that fellow partners have let boredom get the best of them, and that's when we hit our roadside traffic posts. It doesn't take long before you notice a car with fully blacked out windows, tinted window / headlight covers, and sometimes blue LED lights to boot in place of the windshield washers caps.
To give you a quick breakdown of Pennsylvania law, in lame man's terms we don't allow tint period. The 70% law is one of the most strict tinting laws in the US, which basically means unless your car is factory tint from the automaker or you have a medical excuse, most other tints out there are too dark. (I for one myself have 22% on my TL.) What most of us officers in the car go by however is if we can see the passengers / driver in the vehicle through the windows.
If you're minding the traffic laws, not presenting any problem or safety concerns, and only have your windows tinted to the point that we can at least see your shadow then chances are we will not waste the time of day stopping your vehicle. On the flipside, if you're a leadfoot travelling 80mph in a 55mph zone and have your radio louder than a nightclub itself, you'll obvious strike a cord with one of us!
I can tell you in 8 years thus far, I've cited one person for driving with illegal window tint, that being a habitual offender of many violations. The mere fact is around here, although much is iillegal, unless you've done something of serious concern traffic or crime wise, we won't bother spending the 30 minutes to stop the vehicle, run your license / registration through NCIC, and cite you for a mere $100'ish citation. We're all human, but tinting is at your own risk. It's just a matter of how you drive and where that depicts the attention factor.
