Legality of Smoked Rockblocker / Tint on rear brake lights?
I tried doing a search on Acurazine but couldn't find anything. I also 'ed the internet and couldn't find anything either.
I like the look of smoked out rear tail lights and was thinking of getting the 80% ("lightly" smoked) rockblocker kit. However, I'm concerned about the legality of smoked tail lights, specifically in Arizona.
For those of you who have smoked tail lights: what state do you live in, are they illegal in your state, and has anyone ever harassed, warned, or ticketed you for the smoked out tails?
Thanks!

i have 35% on my car and I've been pulled over for other offenses, but never given a ticket about my tails., never been pulled over for my tails, but i have been pulled over for my front windows. and my taillights were smoked at the time as well.
it is illegal (in CA) but I've never had a problem, and I have cops following me all the time... what you have to worry about is if there is an accident where you are rear-ended, a good prosecution / or defense attorney can claim visibility concerns based off of your tails and undermine your argument... (even though they are COMPLETELY visible during the day - i have daytime on/off pics if youre intersted.)
getting back... I've never had an issue, and I like the darker color vs. the lighter. the lighter seems a little "maroonish" when it's on. but they look great either way. if you don't have an 07, get your rear sidemakers tinted as well!!
good luck! and let us see when you're done!

Alright, I finally found the law online for Arizona. I couldn't specifically find any law banning the use of tint on any of the lights, but it does say that you have to be able to "clearly" see the tail lights on a "flat, even, unlighted highway" at a distance of 500 feet. You also have to be able to "clearly" see the brake lights at a distance of 100 feet during a clear day.
So I guess it all comes down to how much of an asshole a particular cop is feeling on a particular day. There isn't anything specifically prohibiting tinted tails, but any jerk cop could pull me over at any time and just SAY that I'm in violation of the 100-foot or 500-foot rule, even though I doubt any cop would be able to get direct, objective evidence of a violation. If that were to happen, wouldn't the burden of proof be on the municipality to prove that my tails fail to meet the requirement (as opposed to me having to prove that they do meet the requirement)? It just seems kind of vague and like I said, any asshole cop could write me a ticket at any time, and in Arizona, traffic tickets are dismissed only 4% of the time because the traffic judges here are absolute nazis.

i thought i remembered reading that it wasnt illegal since its only a film we're covering it with, not an actual black housing taillight.. guess im wrong. i know for a fact that the tailight spray tint is illegal but i had the same question on this.. as far as my expieriences goes, i've always wondered if i'd get pulled over for them every time a cop was behind me or around, but so far nothing... ive had my headlight taillight tint for about two months and have seen cops around me maybe 8 times with no problem..
