LED from Tek Toys

My LEDs from Tek Toys keep burning out especially on the liscense plate. This is the third time. This happened to anyone else? Are there more reliable bulbs?

How about dome LEDs? Have they burnt out ever? I don't have the license plate LEDs, but my dome ones haven't burnt out yet.

One of my rear domes burnt out, you coudl see the connection fillet rattling around inside the bulb.

I don't think these clusters are very shock resistant... probably why your trunk lights keep blowing (opening an closing of the trunk, and the shock involved). My trunk lights are fine still though.

Good thing is, Brian replaces em for free if they burn out.

Just got the 9 led from Tectoyz , really nice , much better quality than the first set I bought from someone else on EBAY . My door ones went bad, One blew completley, the other 4 of the 6 diodes went out.

As long as TECTOYZ replaces them "its all good"

I have the 9LED clusters for my license plate bulb, it was flickering about 2 months ago, I replaced it with my trunk LED since I barely use/see the trunk light. Oh, but these are not tech toys LED, these are the same quality LEDs but for half price cheaper, so no complaints here. I got them on eBay if anyone is wondering where I got mine.

I really wonder why all of these burnouts seem to be in the license plate lights. For me I hardly drive at night anymore so I would think my door and internal LEDS would get more of a workout (of course I haven't had any issues).

Anyone have any theories?

I ordered a set for the interior two years ago and they are fine. They don't seem as bright, but thats due to age. None have burnt out yet.

Would it look stupid to have ALL of the other lights super white and have OEM bulbs in the license plate area? Would the contrast be that great/noticeable?

Personally I'd go ahead and get ones for the license plate as well. Maybe order 2-3 extras too just in case since they are all the same bulbs (except the glove box and center console)

Mine flickered too and eventually went out. I did not know that Brian replaced them for free but then again, I wouldn't want to keep sending them back to be replaced. It happened to both of my rear plate leds.

I replaced mine with superbrightled 6leds and they have been fine for the last year.

Not really because assuming you are referring to 'the whole set' as the interior dome and side door lights, you cant even see the interior lighting from the outside unless you are parked.

Conversely you can't see the license plate bulbs unless you are driving at night so i don't see how you would be able to contrast the bulbs.

But heck, get it anyway it looks good!

yeah, i went through about 3 pairs of them over the course of a few months. same deal. i think they burn out due to the blinking that occurs when you lock and unlock your door. or it might not be a "clean" enough power source for the LED.

i switched to another vendor and i noticed that his bulbs had the slight difference of having an added resitor built in. so far no problems.

but yes, in my experience tech toyz, unfortunately, aren't license plate friendly.

yup. the interior LEDs are still going strong (originals from techtoys) - they've yet to fail on me. this problem only happens when you try and use the bulbs in the license plate.

yeah they dont last as long as I would like. Sometimes I swap out the interior door panel ones for the license plate when it gets dim.. eh what can you do, wont stop me from buying them. They get me a lot of compliments and are usually the first mod that people notice

I just received a quote from Brian that included all this:

2 9LED Door Lights
2 9LED Map Lights
2 9LED Rear Dome Lights
2 Single LEDs (glovebox & Center Console)
2 License Plate Lights
Total: $56 shipped

Ok, maybe i haven't noticed but where is there a light on the center console? I'll go ahead and give this to me right now... but I don't remember seeing one there.

Also, is this a good price? Do you think he would swap the 2 Single LEDs (glovebox and the center console) for 2 EXTRA license plate lights? I've been reading that the plate lights go out quick.

Or should I order from someone else? Maybe better luck with another company or person?? Like the majority here, I don't want to keep sending the burnt out LED's back to Brian... that would get kinda annoying.

Thanks in advance for your input/advice!

The center console light is the uhhhh deeeeeeeep storage space under the armrest. That's where the led goes.

I don't know about the swapping. Personally - I don't have a center console or glovebox leds b/c those are hardly ever seen by anyone. I don't know about the price either. *shrugs*

HOWEVER, I am on my second set of license plate lights. Brian replaced my other ones. He did mention to me about maybe trying out 12Led license plate lights to see if the lights hold out better than the 9.

Who knows?

Enjoy!

Oh there is a light WAAAYYYYY down there huh? Yeah, I agree with you Pinky, the lights in the glovebox and that center console are hardly ever seen so I don't think I need them.

Thanks for pointing that out to me!!

I have 12LED whites EVERYWHERE! Including the trunk, console, glove box and vanity. I boguht them from Tec-Toyz and I highly recommend dealing with Brian. You can't beat his burnout guarantee. They have a purplish hue. Love em so much I've went LED crazy. By the time I'm done with my LED turn signals the only regular bulbs that will be left on my car will be the fogs and backups.
