Leather

I ahve had my '04 TL since May. I'm starting to see some wear on the stearing wheel where I usually hold the wheel. Since I use to have a 04 Integra manual I alsways have my hand on the shifter. I currently have the auto TL. What do you guys recommend for keeping the leather wheel ( or all the leather in fact) from getting worn quickly? TIA

Warren

Warren,

Regularly use leather cleaner and conditioner. Lot of people use Lexol or Zaino. It will keep you leather good for years to come.

Be careful on which cleaner/conditioner you use, especially on the steering wheel . Some cleaners/conditioners leave a greasy film. Test it out on a different location to see its outcome.

The Zaino "leather in a bottle" is very non-greasy and has a great scent, at least I think so. My wife can't stand sitting in the car once I've treated the seats but I suppose I really can't complain about that! :P I think you'll be happy with its performance.

Another excellent product is "Leather CPR" which you can purchase at Restoration Hardware or online at http://www.leathercpr.com. It has almost no scent and dries without any greasy residue or blotching. I still use it occasionally but simply prefer the Zaino because of the leather smell. Either way you can't go wrong.

Avoid the crap they sell at Checker, Kragen, Pep Boys, etc. The Meguiars and Armor All leather treatment (1) smell like crap, (2) are too greasy and (3) leave splotchy marks all over unless you buff them out. Not worth the $$$.

Unfortunately the only place to get it is online at http://www.zainostore.com. They have flat-rate shipping so I'd suggest picking up some Z-2 polish and ZFX activator while you're at it. It's a little pricier than what you'll find at the local auto parts store but really well worth the extra $$. Pick up a clay bar while you're at it and you'll be ready to detail the new TL inside and out. I'd also recommend some 303 aerospace protectant for the vinyl and plastic in the car- non-greasy, non-splotchy and extremely effective at protecting against UV, dust, etc. Don't even think about Armor All! You can pick up the 303 at tons of places online. They also sell it at your local REI sports store.

i've used Lexol for years, from leather motocross boots to my italian leather couch and now on my TL leather. the trick is to use it sparingly.

Use 303 Aerospace protectant. It is non-greasy and will protect it from UV damage too. BTW, this stuff is great for the dash as well. It is not glossy or greasy, just nice deep color.
