Lease TL w/nav in NJ

Looking to lease TL04 w/nav system (36 months, 12000 m/y, 0 down). I'm trying to find out how much people in NJ pay/month for these terms? If you lease on other terms, please specify the details. Any information will be very appreciated!

Based on a $34,000 sell price, 54% residual, and .002 Money factor - it would be about $550 / month with NJ sales tax.

I'm just guessing on the residual value though. You can call a dealer and find out what the current residual is with those lease terms.

Do not be to concerned with getting a monthly price, that is where dealers can rip you off. Instead get the vehicle cost, residual, rate factor and calculate your own monthly payment, there are many lease calculators on the web.

Rule Leasing tip: Never put any money down, if you car is totaled or stolen you lose all of that down payment

inception will also cost you around $1500. if i were you, just purchase it. my monthly payments on a 6MT/NAV/HPT is at $620/month. the inception money can easily be your downpayment.

I'm pretty sure for that price of $620, you can get yourself something in the range of 530i. Just mentioning, not trying to start any arguments

34,000 (average price for tl w/navi) + NJ tax / 60 months is $600 / month before even considering interest on the loan. That number sounds about right to me. You can get a Ferrari for $620 a month too if you put enough money down. What's your point?

You dont have to explain the down payment theory to me. What i'm saying is you can get the BMW for about that payment with a minimum down payment. Maybe $500 more than what was quoted below.

The 530i starts at 45,000. 45,000 / 60 = 750 / month, again, not even considering interest and the fact that 45000 is the absolute base price of a 530i and most are probably upwards of 50K. I just don't see where you are getting your numbers from, that's all.

And we're talking leases her, not financing.

well that's a different story but the post you quoted with the $620 amount was in reference to financing, not leasing.

A person can negotiate a lease on a 530i for about 620-640 a month for 39 months, with approx. 2k out of pocket.

yes but the person paying $620 is BUYING the TL for that amount. Of course you can lease a more expensive car for the same price you could purchase a less expensive car. That's one of the main reasons people lease.

You are absolutely right. In fact I misunderstood 3PUTT's comment underneath that he has financed the car. Basically the lease difference between the two cars is about $150-200.

Any other experience with leasing TL in NJ?

P.S. just a polite attempt to bring the conversation back to the original question

I got mine in NJ for $556.01 a month. Only gave the dealer the 1st payment and $228 for the registration and plates. And that was it. No other money down. 36 months, 12,000 miles and $19500 buyout at the end. Did the whole thing over the phone and just drove there signed some papers and left. Got a WDP/Parchemnt/Navi/5MT. It was delivered to the dealer the same day and i left the lot with only 5 miles on the car.

You COMPLETELY missed point didn't you? Here it is again... In general terms..."Leasing is NOT SMART"! The ONLY conditions where leasing makes sense is if you own your own business and the expenses can be written off. Otherwise, as an individual you get NO TAX advantage. Your just renting a car. True, you can RENT a more expensive car than you could afford to buy, but THAT'S EXACTLY MY POINT, you shouldn't be leasing ANYTHING you can't afford to buy. Economics 0001

besides, why would ANYONE pay MORE for less car? The 530i has less power, less handling. Then again, if status is the only determining factor, why stop at Beemers, why not just go right up to the top with the Benz ///AMG's?

I have driven both and can't say its less in the handling dept. Its actually more. And it's Economics 101, maybe back when you were in college it was 0001.

Ndabunka,

Leasing can be a smart move even if you do not own a business, but in general you are correct. In my case I leased an'02 TL-S for 36mo, $410/mo 17.5k per yr. So I paid about $14500 to use that car for 3 yrs and 64000 miles. It's value when I turned it in was less $14k. In that instance had I purchased the car for $30k, my net cost with tax + finance cost would have been about $34k. Had I done that and sold it now for $14k the car would have cost me $20k over the same 3 yr period. So by leasing my '02 TL-S I saved about $6k vs a purchase.

You're being way too polite, his post was wrong. If you take care of your cars, trade them frequently, and aren't at risk from having to prematurely terminate a lease, leasing makes a lot of sense. A car is a depreciating asset, you're going to lose money no matter how you pay for it. Cars with high residuals and/or subsidized lease rates reduce your payments. You can then take that money and invest it or make it work for you. I always lease my cars because I never keep them more than three years. I just financed a Volvo though because they're lousy lease candidates. Everyone's different ndabunka - don't make black and white assumptions based on your individual perspectives.

I lease becuase I drive a lot of miles. For me leasing is cheaper than owning. NADA deducts 17.5 cents per mile if you go over 12k miles per year. When I lease I pay for mileage up front at .08 cents per mile. Net Net, I save 9.5 cents per mile when I lease a car and drive it 17k miles a yr than if I owned that same car.

the way roads are and depreciation why buy...so i finance a car for 40k pay lets say 5+k in interest..so after i pay off the car what is it worth and how much work does it need after driving on these crappy roads and careless other drivers ..
basically u get a new car every 4 years

and dont have to worry about maintanence on car when they start to fall apart after 5 years

if i was old i would buy a hyandai with a 10 year warranty..thats the way to go

I was actually wondering in regards to the lease price that vitalik paid. He paid 466 for non navi, so was wondering what it was for navi.

According to the dealer, navi option costs $2K. When I asked him how much it will cost me a month as a part of the lease, he told me to divide $2K by 42 (months) (which is ~ $48 and add it to my $466). His quote: "navi system does not have any residual value and in three years it will cost nothing". Even though it sounded like a BS, I didn't discuss it any further.
