Leaning towards making a generational jump
Hi All,
I'm a 2nd Gen TL'er and its time for me to move on. I don't care for the 4th gen TLs appearance and there are a lot of 08 TL's available at the dealer. Before I jump in I had a few questions based on my previous TL experience.
1. Are there any major problems? For example, 2nd gen TL's transmission issues (which bit me in the ass at one point).
2. Are there any cosmetic/molding issues? In my TL, the B-pillar paint kept getting messed up. Also, the interior door handle molding would pull away from the hard window switch section. I've had to re-glue those areas a few times.
3. Should I get an extended warranty? The 08's are covered for five years, so its good until 2013 or so. Should I pay the dealer to extend it, or go online for a third party warranty?
Thanks all. I'm not a "car" person but the DIYs have gotten me to work more on my old car then I ever thought possible.

If you're going for an 08, you're good to go!
I wouldn't get extended warranty.
If you feel comfortable paying for it, by all means do so.

1) Not in particular. Search around, there are a couple of threads talking about transmission fluids and pressure switches for preventive maintnance for the transmission. There haven't been too many reports of the 5AT failing, but it has happened.
2) The dashboards on the 2004-06 have had issues with cracking, mostly the 04s though. Happens mainly in warmer climates. The leather in the 3G TL is kinda sucky after a while too. It cracks and wrinkles. Interior rattles are also an annoyance.
3) If you can afford it, it'll never hurt. But I personally wouldn't buy one.
I absolutely love my 3G TL and you will too.

That's exactly where I came from, a 99 2nd gen. I traded it in for a 08 TLS and loving it. As far as I've been reading on this forum, most of the problems are appearing on the 04's, and I think you'll be ok with an 08

Okay all.
After months of deliberating and research I finally bought a 2008 TL today.
Carbon Bronze 23,000 miles at a decent price. I ended up with the warranty, I really wasn't looking for it, but I could afford it and felt it couldn't hurt. It did have some nice features (i.e. weather floor mats and OEM back up sensors.)
Now I need some help so that I don't get buyers remorse. Not that I expect to be disappointed with the car, its a problem I have when I make big purchases. I always expect to see something cheaper, less miles, better color, more features, etc listed the next day.
To avoid this I usually focus on making my car better. So I'm here for some suggestions. Here's what I was thinking:
1. Change out side lights (I've been reading the thread so I'll order them off ebay and follow the instructions.)
2. Install LED interior lights (same as above, just need to find the light model numbers and order them.)
3. I'd like to install a spoiler, but can't seem to find any on ebay. Any suggestions?
4. Other ideas that would be easy to do?
Thanks

Congrats on the 08 TL!! What do you mean by OEM back-up sensors?? The TL doesn't have back-up sensors. Perhaps a back-up camera, but not sensors. Check out the 3G garage for tons of info. Also register your TL at www.myacura.com in the USA or https://www.myacura.acura.ca/myAcura...ToLoginPage.do in Canada. Save your Navi and Radio codes there.

I agree. I am a short timer also but have already seen and heard that ACK is the man to see everything dealer. Please don't ebay the wing. Leave it wingless if that is the case.
I absolutely love my car and have had it less than 2 weeks.
I found 2 cars that I wanted over the one I got for same or better deal. Thats just part of life. If you always wait you will never own.
Don't knock yourself and just know and believe you got the best car you found and enjoy the hell out of it.
