Yea, but I don't recall many people around this forum changing their pulley/water pumps, could have just been a fluke with my car. You said your sound is coming from the rear. Doesn't sound like the water pump would cause that? Wonder if it has something to do with your exhaust.

J RIDE 81, the dealer just called. They are going to try replacing the water pump pulley as they believe it is a bit loose than normal. He will have to order the part and it won't arrive until tomorrow. I guess they are as stumped as me. BTW, he did say the sound does go and come back, indicating that it is not a normal sound. I'll post more as I get more info.

ensley696, antilock brakes engaging? is it normal to do that? shoudnt it engage like when you start the car instead of when you drive off? have you gotten yours checked out?

It's perfectly normal. It happens to all TL's when they first drive off.

RTFM!!!

The ABS brakes are not engaging - it is a test of the relays, solenoids, and ABS fluid pump. It also keep the system pliant.

Here's a RR tip: you want to cycle you ABS for real at least once/month. Find some gravel or sand, and drive over it at about 20, and nail the brakes hard enough for ABS to function - this keeps the fluid moving, and seals pliant, etc. Very cheap insurance.

Thats what it was, an abs test. Sorry about that madehtsobi. I knew it had to do with the ABS though. Thanks RR.

Take yours to the dealer J RIDE 81. Its still under warranty.

ITS BACK. Da blame it. The sound is back. I'm going to make an appointment with my dealer tomorrow since I'm in training today. Man, my Honda is in the shop more than my Chevy these days, *L*.

Sorry to hear that, Keep us posted. Mine really doesn't bother me and it's really not that noticable. It doesn't effect the performance of my car the least bit. I'm waiting until I need my B service which is soon to check it out. G'Luck

So what was the reason or thought process your dealer had to require changing the water pump, pulley etc...? Sounds like a typical dealership, "lets just start replacing things until the noise goes away - and if it doesn't, at least the customer thinks were doing something"......

Hopefully you will have better luck the second or third time around..

Ok, got the car back Friday. They changed another pulley? Can't remember what pulley though. Sounds like they might have gotten it this time. KJSmitty, apparently it sounded like a loose belt to them. THey said the belt was loose on the pulley, so they suspected that might be what was causing it. They did admit they didn't know at first and I had a feeling the first time around would not fix it. If I hear it again, I might try my dealer I bought the car from.

I wonder if it's a fuel choice that causes this. I haven't heard this knocking noise in a few weeks now...

No, I use 91. Californians don't have the luxury of 93 octane gasoline.
