Key Rattle-What do you do?
I'm surprised nobody has commented on the rattle caused by the ignition key with the remote. When you're on a rough or wavy road, the key sways and the remote hits the plastic immediately below the ignition switch. I'm thinking of putting a small piece of foam to stop it. Anyone else?

Acura's on top of the situation!

Good info Edwardo. I'm really surprised others haven't commented on this. It's REALLY lound when that puppy hits the plastic. I can't imagine what they'd do other then add foam to the immediate area around the ignition switch. Of course a one piece key/remote would have solved the problem entirely.

Seems as if there would be "bigger fish to fry" than a remote that hits against the steering column like every other car known to man.
I'd prefer to see Acura spend time on other things -
All in one key/switchblade
Squeeky Brakes
Rusty Tail pipes.

I got sick of this happening in my TSX, so I stuck a 1" long piece of weatherstripping tape where the key fob hits -- not pretty, but it works great. I guess the car was designed with the Accord key in mind, which is longer, and has no remote/fob to clang against the steering column.
BTW, this is the same weatherstripping tape I used to keep my license plate frame from clanging when I shut the trunk

Here are a couple of options that I am going to look into, though your options may vary depending on interior color.
1. Black electrical tape
2. Black foam tape
3. The soft side of Black velcro
Just a small piece of one of these should help reduce the noise. Seriously, it's not a huge issue, but Acura could easily spend the extra $.50 per customer on this. have something at the dealerships that people can pick up and install themselves of have it installed when other service is performed.

Maybe if u are hearing music. u wont hear. i didnt even know this sounded. i have just key, with remote and a ring. no noise. never noticed, but i bet i will be on the look out for it. but still. WOW. how retarded. lol. i mean just opening the windows you hear more the other cars and all than a simple key swinging.

Rets, yup, any one of those would have solved the issue. The funny thing is though, that the sound that the remote makes against the column is far louder than some of the other rattles in the car.
Um Gumme, unless your deaf, the sound is clearly heard with the radio on. Of course if your deaf, you might also be blasting your radio to the point that you won't hear the key rattle or any other rattle in the car.....of course you'll probably cause your sub to rattle in the process.
BJ, would Gator do that to me? That IS cause for concern!
Moeronn, I'm going to try one of those too. It should really be an easy fix....maybe just not too pretty.

or you could get one of those detatchable key kind of chains. where you have your main set of keys for your house and your key fob, and then theres a detatchable bit where you can have another ring with your car key on it.
reach in the pocket for keys. detatch the car key and tap the unlock button and only take out the car key itself for the ignition.
its also much much harder to accidently leave your keys and fob in the car at the same time. if you accidently leave one behind... who gives a shit?

First of all, it is good to see BJ being a little sympathetic instead if his usual sarcastic self.
But the issue at hand is the blood curdlling sound of the darn remote colliding with the steering column. What I used to do was turn the radio up near max but then I learned I was damaging my hearing. Now, I just insert a few cotton balls in my ears before I place the car in drive. It works like a charm.
What's that? Can you hear me now?

Heh heh heh... wow, you guys are actually serious..... right? Sometimes it's hard to tell with this group. I thought it was weird that I never noticed this, since I have noticed a couple of other little rattles that have come & gone. Then I realized that it's probably because I keep so damn many keys on my keychain, that the key fob is actually shielded from the steering column by them! Seriously, you guys should try that. All you get is a little jingling of all the keys, which is easily drowned out by the radio (I never even notice it). Sometimes it pays to have a ridiculously cluttered keychain. Of course, this wouldn't work well for the guy who was complaining that the key fob itself is too big for his pocket! (Seriously, if you're not a chick, why the hell are your jeans that tight?!?) :lol2:
