Key Mod

I just completed the wonderful Acura -> Honda key mod, but I used a copied key to epoxy into the frame instead of hacking the original. I need to get the immobilizer reprogramed, but am wondering if this is possible as I bought this key off ebay used. (The immobilizer has been programmed once). Which dealership around the Boston area would program an key for me?

You should check with the dealer. I am sure there is a way to do this, because if you bought a replacement key from the dealer they would have to program it to work with your car, so this should be the same situation. I have heard it is fairly expensive to get this done.

Mitsucar2000 is referring to this mod: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=117050

take this key:

with this key:

to create this key:

So you will have ONE key/fob solution that works for the TL.

Re-Programming Immobilizer Chip

Glad you guys like that mod so much as I was the original guinea pig that did it.
Because I used my original immobilizer chip in the project I never had the opportunity to try these instructions I found on the web to re-program an Acura immobilizer chip. Try them and see if they work.
Good Luck!

You need:
1.Your New Key
2.A MASTER KEY (one with the remote in it)already programmed to car.
----to program the transponder- (thats the immobilizer part)
sitting in dr. seat, put the master key in ignition, and turn to on.engine OFF. press the gas pedal 5 times to floor and release. now press brake 6 times (press and release)
remove master key from ignition. install new key and turn to on...engine off. press gas to floor once. now wait. the security light will blink for about 45-60 seconds, then it will go off if you did it correctly. once the light is off, car should start.

I did this mod but i have to used my immobilizer from my valet key to put into my honda key. but i called the local acura dealership here in San diego and they try to charge me 40.00 for it. Everything works except for the memory seats, autolock on 10mph and the headlight settings, it doesnt go to max brightness when i turn on the headlight.

what if you used the factory keyfob and turned of the memory seats by pushing the lock/unlock at the same time... then used the honda key.... will it keep the same settings that were used by the acura keyfob????

I just got my key back from having it modified by a guy from the TSX forum. It is awesome. He did great work, charged me $40 for his labor. The other expenses I had were $10 for the Honda key off of ebay, $1.40 to have a blank cut, and $.79 to ship it to the TSX guy. I have reprogramed the buttons and they work great. The car just uses the last settings that were used since there is no driver 1 or 2 associated with the Honda key. I tried to program the Honda Imobilizer chip to the TL per the instructions above...no go. I'll be off to the Acura dealer in a week and a half to get it programed..hopefully he won't charge, but everything in Sacramento is expensive. The key still has the Honda H on it and I plan on going to the junk yard and getting an old Acura key or fob and using the A off of it to replace the H.

I got my key in the mail last night..it was really easy to program the Keyfob but the immobilizer reprogram instructions do not work... i tried it for a half hour last night.... does anyone know how to reprogram it... or does anyone have any info on how much have they been charged by dealers to reprogram theirs. i would rather do that than trying to cut it out and transport it.....

Most of the posts I have seen have said their dealer charged nothing to do it. BUT...every dealer is different and I have also seen some complete ripoffs..dealer quotes form $40 to $180 just to have the immobilizer recognized by the car. Also, remember that any Honda or Acura dealer can do it. I have not yet had the time to get to my dealer to get it done but I should sometime this coming week.
