Key fob rubs my knee
This may sound lame, but I can't stand the the key fob hanging down and rubbing on my knee. I used to have a 2001 Jetta and those keys are self contained (switchblade style) and nothing hangs down. Any ideas? I'm thinking of sticking a magnet on the fob and then the steering column to keep it out of the way.

But instead of a magnet on each side, since magnets can repel each other if not perfectly aligned, you should put a magnet on one side, probably better on the steering column, and a piece of metal that will stick to the magnet on the key fob.
Or you could use velcro.
Or you could separate the key from the fob, and just put the key in the ignition by itself.
I don't like this idea because I am afraid I will leave one or the other behind, but it might work for you.

Magnets only repel eachother if you put the positive or negative poles facing up on BOTH the column and the fob. If you put the positive facing up on one and the negaitve facing up on the other it wouldn't be a problem at all.

I've had the same problem. I have one of the key rings with the ignition key on a separate ring that will separate from the fob. Once I unlock the door with the fob, the ignition key separates with a push of the sliding mechanism.

i think the whole fob thing is garbage -- for a 30k+ car, it looks cheap, poorly-designed, and far behind the integrated VW/Audi fob/key (or even the Accord one).
I mean, shit, why can't Honda give the TL a better key/remote than the CIVIC???!??!

Does anybody have an old spare key fob that matches the current style. I'm extremely tempted to break apart my key to try and make something custom. My buddy is an electrical engineer. Just curious what's inside. Does the plastic part of the actual key have any function?

Yes, are the nice keys only reserved for the lower line of Honda? My friend has an 03 Accird and his fob and key is all in one. Very nice, our fob and key are not luxurious at all. Acura needs to quiet the hangy-danglies.
