03 v. 04 TL

Also, FWIW, the driver side windshield wiper in the 04 is 26" while it was 24" on the 03

Personally I didn't notice any performance effect - good or bad. I did notice the MPG improving about 2-3, which I'm more than happy with.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but is there a mileage point at which you should install the filter? Could you do it right away? If you can/do swap the filter right away, is there a need to reset the ECU? Thanks in advance. Should be getting my TL within a week and want to swap the filter out as soon as I can.

FWIW, I put a k&n into my previous wrx and it did nothing. I couldn't feel any increase in power and the mpg stayed the same.

None.

As far a resetting the ECU, I understand that over time it will automatically adjust to the new airflow. However, you can disconnect the battery to have it reset immediately. I noticed the MPG improvement immediately on the trip computer and I didn't reset the ECU.

Anyone else have experience with these air filters and whether they think they are worth using? An extra 2-3 mpg for $40 is a good deal in my book. Performance boost would be a plus too.

Regardless of whether it works or not, I think the $40 you spend on it now pays off in the long run. These things last practically forever, and first cleaning is not required until 50k miles. It pays for itself after ~3 replacements of the paper air filter required in the first ~20k miles.

Does anyone know if they pass more particles than the stock paper kind? My dealer told me the KN Filters could pass small particles that could score the cylinders, is this BS???

4 philips screws, lift the cover, slip out the stock filter and slip in the K&N. It's right next to your battery.

Note: the filters have some sort of vegetable oil on them, so use caution when handling them and not getting it on your TL's paint.

I put a K&N on my old '88 Honda Accord 5MT a couple of years ago. I was disappointed when I drove around some & didn't feel any extra power

However, when I took it on the highway I DEFINITELY noticed some extra umph while accelerating in 5th! Additionally, my gas mileage increased by maybe 2-3 mpg.

This is something I'll look into for my TL, but only after the first oil change. Since the first change is "special", I don't want to accidentally mess it up by potentially introducing more/larger dirt particles into the engine...

Thanks for posting that price BigBluu...Coincidently, I had just ordered my earlier the same day (plus one for my g/f's Escape) from ajusa. But I paid over $3 more for it. So I went back and checked and sure enough the proces for everything I had bought just a couple of hours ago were lower. Wound up calling them and they credited me almost $10 from my initial $90 order.

When you guys install your k&n filter, did you find the length of the k&n is actually shorter than the stock filter.
It would not cover up the entire airbox leaving some room on one end, please confirm.

These filters last forever and because they are oiled catch more paricles and can be cleaned and re-oiled. It is the easily the best bank for your buck.

It pays for itself simply because you will never have to buy another air filter again. Anytime you flow more air into an engine you get more HP (turbo's and superchargers work on that concept).

On my '02 TL-S there was slightly more intake noise at idle and noticably more a WOT.

There is NO WAY you're going to "feel" the difference between the K&N filter and the paper one that's currently in your car.

2-3 MPG?

That's a 10% gain in fuel economy.

Don't you think the manufacturers would include such filters in EVERY new vehicle if those types of fuel economy gains were possible?

Real world differences in pressure drops between K&N air filters and paper filters is tiny. There is NO WAY you're going to "see" ANY change in fuel mileage. (If one does occur, it won't be apparent.)

1le, PLEASE don't get started again....it's been soooo nice and quiet around here lately without the flamefests. Besides, I posted that message over 3 weeks ago....give it a rest. Sheesh.

I'm installing my K&N filters on our cars today and I look forward to seeing some of the gains posted here by others. Thanks to everyone here for pointing this product out.

Again, anyone who thinks they're going to gain "2-3 MPG" in their TL by simply replacing the OEM paper air filter with a K&N panel filter is either:

1) On crack

2) The type of person that P.T. Barnum said was born "every minute" (sucker).

3) Both

Pass the pipe then.

Go back to your accord forum where you belong. I'm tired of all your insults and holier than thou attitude. You don't even own a TL, so I could never understand why you bother to infest us with your presence. Believe me, we're doing just fine without you and your "knowledge".

I realize that it doesn't make much sense, but i installed the K&N yesterday before my 150 mile trip to Austin from Houston. I have 5K miles on the car and it always gets around 29-30 on the highway going around 75 mph. The whole way I was getting right at 32. All I'm saying is mine changed. If I reset it while driving on the highway on cruise control it gives 32 mpg, before yesterday, this method showed 29-30 mpg. I know this may add some fuel to the flames, but they were my observations.
