K&N Air Filter
Bought a K&N air filter. Boy, is it tough to get to the OEM filter. Any suggestions/tips on how to install the new filter? Don't want to damage the hose between air filter box and engine, but it doesn't seem to want to come off. And, it looks like it must to be able to install the new filter. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I was able to install mine without removing the hose between the air filter box and engine. I removed/or moved up the plastic engine covers on the driverside and over the battery, lifted up the air box cover, and worked the stock filter up and out. The stock filter is the problem. Its about 2.5 inches in depth. Once its out the k&n just slipped in, since its only about an inch deep.

I had the same issue as well. I removed the bolts for the stock air filter cover and pushed towards the throttle body, then angled it up to allow for filter removal. I used a set of needle nose to pull up on element of the stock filter. The drop in of the new filter was a breeze after the removal. Just remember that the stock filter is significantly thicker than the new one and that you need to pull up and out.
Good luck!
Good luck!

I just mail ordered mine, and Pep Boys sells K&N though I don't know if they will stock them for the TL. But read the other threads, in a dusty environment I would use the stock filter and not go with the K&N. K&N WILL NOT filter as well.

K&N #33-2299
I've seen people get them from 4filters.com for about $42.
I use stock so I cannot vouch for quality, etc...

BTW, Double-check the part number. There was an issue with the earlier filters produced. They had square corners and didn't fit nearly as well. They also had a different part number. Verify this and you should be fine. See thread linked below for more details and pics...

I know these posts are old, but how do you get the rear inside screw out. I had to use a ratchet to get the other three out, because they are all in incredibly tight. However, since the last one is so far down in there I ended up loosing the socket before i got it on the screw. Is there any easier way? I thought about disconnecting the intake tube, but it didn't look like that would help, with that metal thing connected to it.
