Just Installed: 255/40/17 Yokos

I tried it, tested the Yokohama ES 100s on the 17 in. wheel and no problem with fit. They look awesome! Ride is much better than Turanzas. I guess I don`t have to worry about rim damage!:wow:

I mean scraping the wheel against an object.

Before- scrape wheel then tire

After-scrape tire, wheel intact

The 40 series at 255 is closer to the OEM diameter than the 45 series would be at 255.

No kidding. Both my OEM driverside wheels got scratched in a car wash by the wheel guides.

Will this be fixable by new tires or is it the rim that sticks out too far. Odd oversight. Tires are easy enought to fix. Same problem prevalent on 18"s too?

Tires are the quick fix. Basically tires that are wider than the rims so they "hang over" a bit will protect the rim face as the sidewall of the tires will hit any objects instead of the rim edges themselves. Some tires like my new Falkens have a tire protection edge built in.

All the OEM's (both 17's and 18's) have the problem of the rim being wider than the tire.

Do the new replacement tires that get rid of the vibration fix this? Figure tire companies would think of this

danno,

Pics please! Also, what did you inflate to. Did you previously have 50-55 vibration issue and how is it now with the Yokos? Any snow or ice your way to test? Thanks

The new replacement tires will still be Bridgestone Turanza EL42's, identical except for a different rubber compound to eliminate the flatspotting (according to all the stuff I have read here), so they won't do any more to protect your rims than the originals.

I agree with the ES100's. When I put aftermarket wheels on my Accord, it was certainly a noticeble change. I went from OEM tires to the Yokohama ES100's and road noise, although not completely eliminated made a difference and if I decide to pick up the TL I would definitely like to get another set.

Sorry guys for the late response: the 255s fit perfect. The tire store mounted 1 tire, all around, and checked for fitment. No problems at all.

The ride is SOOO much better than the ELs, I think it rides smoother, like more of a cushion. With the Comptech springs, handling is fantastic.

I never had any problems with vibration with the EL42s. I`m using them for the winters

What an aggresive looking car with these tires!. I had a friend take pics of the car before I had these put on, hoping the gallery would come back,(I had to pay him to take pics).

I`ll call him to see if he could re-take them (and not charge me!).

I suggest anyone who doesn`t want to change the wheels, this is the way to go!

This car is a lease, so sinking money for wheels is crazy

The Yokos were 130 each. And yes, I`d say there is a significant difference in ride quality.

BTW, I think anyone who wants to get these tires, AND has the Aero kit, like myself, the tires look better, because with the kit, there is more flair that compliments the increase width of the tire.

As great as it sounds it is a hefty price to pay for a brand new car that just came with brand new tires. Will have to wait till they get swapped out. How many miles are the Turanzas rated for?

Someone in his area please help this poor soul out. Paying a 'friend' to snap a couple of pictures is ridiculous! :o

If you get pics taken and need a place to host them, send them here. Very interested in what it looks like as well.

If you wanna take your beautiful car on a joy ride over here to MA, I would be happy to take up to 100 pics free of charge (I think that is all my card will hold). Plus you can have some fun in Boston while you're here

let us know if the increase width of the tire made any difference in the mpg of the car...
I like the 'fat' look too, I think it complements the look of the car.

nice price too.
my friend bought them for his BMW 330ci and he loves the Yoko's.
he paid $150 at discount tires...

where are they priced at $130? -- thanks all

Thanks TGT, I might take you up on it, but being I paid him, I`d like to post it where it would come up with my profile all the time.Any suggestions? I know what to do with cars, but when it comes to electronics; dummy.

As far as alot of money, its not. Compaired to other brands of tires out there. And with the looks and ride, worth it.

The Place where I bought them is Town Fair Tire. They have shops here in CT. They usually charge 10 - 20 more per tire than Tire Rack,so its not expensive. Plus they give you a 30 day garranty. Don`t like them, bring them back for something else.:wow:

I was thinking 245/40's for my Goodyear F1's, but 255/40's would be closer to the right circumferance. Good call! I wonder if the wider tires will make it worse in the rain in terms of hydroplaning...

Sorry, haven't looked into much of the 'free hosting' sites. But I think someone mentioned http://www.cardomain.com? Whatever you do, post some pics. Very interested myself.

2 questions:

1. How is the road noise of the Yokos compared to the stock tires?

2. Some people feel that a tire that wide on a FWD car will cause the front end to "wander". Do you feel any difference in the stability with the 255s?

I do feel some wandering on un- even roads, but comparing this size to the next , (245s), I don`t know how much between the two.

Believe me, with all the positive points, looks, softer ride, better handling, etc. its worth it.

BTW, if there is anybody in the Greenwich - Stamford CT. area and could take and post pics let me know
