Just got my paint pen
Just got my paint pen
I followed a link in one of these older paint pen threads, which lead to an ebay auction. I picked up the nighthawk black with clear coat on the other side for a total of $15 which included shipping. The guy I dealt with is great, immediate e-mail sent and I received my pen today after about 5 days or so of waiting.
I'm not really sure how I feel about the quality of the pen right now. I touched up a spot on my door where a kid threw a rock at my car, and a little chip on my hood. The paint doesn't really seem to match the rest of the car that well; it's actually lighter. I'm going to let it dry for another 10 minutes before I take another look at it but right now I'm not thrilled with it. I have a few nice size scratches on my hood and roof I wanted to touch up but now I'm having second thoughts. If worse comes to worse I'll wait a few years and have the entire car painted. In the meantime I'll use it to touch up some spots on my mom's black civic. Her car is 4 years old and faded enough so the paint blends in a lot nicer than on my car.

i also have NBP and recently got a paint chip on the car (only 500 miles so far
) i was also looking for a paint pen...thx for your input. Do u mind if u can put up some pictures showing the quality of the paint?
I called up my Acura dealership (Sierra Acura of Alhambra) and parts dept told me that they sell bottle ink for $5. I might just try that if what you said about ur paint pen is true. I was actually looking forward to buy a paint pen..because the other tip has clear coat which u can use to apply after u paint over the chipped paint. The parts dept guy told me the bottle ink has clear coat mixed in w/ it...who knows.

I got the touch up paint from my dealer as well but didn't want to try it because it seems a little difficult, however the color looks like it will definitely match. By the way, my dealer gave me my bottle for free since I bought the car there
I just looked at the spots I touched up and now it looks almost like the spots you get on your car after it rains and the water dries. Sort of like a hazy spot where I applied the paint. Oh well.

I've this canadian pen for NBP. The clor matches well though the applicaation is little difficult since the felt tip is pretty wide. I usually get the paint on the toothpick if the chip is smaller. Have used it on two occassions. It's a nice to have but filling a chip should be done with all the steps and care.
We probably have the same pen, mine's from Canada as well. Matter of fact, I'm almost positive they don't make it or sell it in the U.S.
Did it work well for you? How many coats did you apply and did the clear coat seem to darken it, like was stated above? I'll definitely give it another go tomorrow.

EnJ, yes it has wroked well for me. I've given three coats per chip. (Had two chips in year and half. Irony is that I had a chip just outside the clearbra border.
) Color matches perfectly but it's a difficult task to level the filled chip with the other surounding area and I have not yet mastered it. I have not observed any darkness after applying clear coat though.
