Just Got My First TL!!!

Hey guys,
I got into a car accident a couple weeks ago and unfortunately my car was totaled. I ended up getting a 2005 Acura TL with 108k mi for $11250 fully loaded with navi, premium sound and all the goodies. I love it already! Coming from a honda civic, this car is leaps and bounds better than that piece. The previous owner was meticulous with the car and had the head gasket, timing belt, water pump, hoses, and various other parts replaced recently (too many to list off the top of my head).

The car drives extremely nice with smooth shifts and no wobbles and no rattling inside. I am new to the acura scene and was wondering if there are certain things i should look for while driving my new car. I would like to keep this for a good amount of time. I know the transmission will require attention, specifically the sensors in these TLs.

What are some signs of the sensors starting to go out? When i put my car into drive from park, is it normal for the transmission to take a second or two to catch? Thank you!!

Congrats on the new car! I've had my 08 for a few months and it's great! Many important things listed on the forum for what to look out for. Key item at your mileage is timing belt, spark plugs, etc. Also, wouldn't hurt to do a transmission drain and refill 3X3 (forum has tons of posts about this as well).

Welcome and congrats!

If your car seems to hesitate between gears, especially 3rd and 4th, then look into replacing the pressure switches. The transition between park and drive will warrant a very slight hesitation, but nothing that I would be overly concerned about.

Thank you guys for the responses! I am beyond excited with my tl. It drives extremely nice and i grin from ear to ear every time i step into that car.

I know the timing belt and water pump were replaced already. I will look into the transmission fluid and is there any way besides a little lag to tell if the sensors need to be replaced yet? So far, the 3rd and 4th gear change is smooth as can be. I will also look to see if the original owner has replaced those because this car is not showing any signs as of right now. Would it better to be safe than sorry in this situation to just go ahead and replace them if he has not?

Again, thank you for the replies and i really appreciate all the feedback. I am totally new to the acura world.

Welcome!

Coming from a Honda, you're not totally new to Acura

And yes, go ahead and replace the 3rd and 4th pressure switches and do the 3x3 transmission drain and refill with OEM ATF DW-1

Welcome to the forum, I too just bought my first tl-s just a couple months ago. There's so much info you can find in this site, that you can be stuck here for hours researching. Even better if your a DIY type of guy. Lets see some pics When you can post.

There are two head gaskets on these engines. It's not routine to replace them unless the head/heads are removed or if one is leaking which I don't think I've heard of on these cars. Do you happen to have receipts that show the work that was done?

Congrats on the purchase!
