...Just couldn't let go of the TL...

Hello everyone...i've been gone for a minute and haven't been doin much with the TL (went through a divorce in 2010...worse year of my life). I'm in a good state now, and instead of being miserable and feeling sorry for myself...i got up and dusted my shoulders. It's great having time to yourself and cruisin down to L.A. (22 hour drive)...doin some reflecting is good for the soul. The "new" me emerged

My lease is up in 5 months, and i was seriously contemplating on letting go of the TL after the lease...but i just couldn't do it! No other car out there catches my eye, and this car has treated me very well.

I caught myself lurking here in Acurazine...and looking at pictures, reading threads...i just couldn't leave. With that said...tl_rox is back, and this site motivated me to keep the TL!!! Keep the good threads and helpful infos coming!!! God bless and Godspeed!!!

Here's a couple pix of "Jada"...apologies for the quality (phone pix)

Nothing like the pride you have in your car that helps assure your identity.

I'd like to hear your story if you don't mind telling it.

Thanks brother God bless to you as well! When i was depressed with the divorce...one thing i thought of is...her and i are not the only couple whose goin through this...some had it worse (ie. children, house, cars to divide)...but thank you for the support!

Thank you for the support Keeping the story short...it just didn't work out (and she happened to become preggy after 2 months of the separation.) But after a long reflecting and time of solitude...i realized there's no need to get angry cause the good Lord has plans for me. I am happy for her, because if we would've stayed...our lives would've been more miserable. I'm just glad we didn't have kids...that would've been harder. There's someone out there for me, i know it...time is our friend

I got divorced at 29, started listening to Dr. Bob, turned 30, "found myself," then I brought my TL and I can't imagine myself letting my car go. I realized that God will only give us what he knows wee can handle...

Welcome back to the forums.

i feel the same exact way about the TL, no other car to this day catches my eye. if i had another chance to buy a car, i would still pick the TL (3rd gen). the only car that somewhat looks decent is the latest 5 series, but im not ready to go German yet. i went to the 2012 auto show and im feeling the 2013 accord coupe, but no matter how good it turns out, i cant go Honda bc that would be a downgrade as silly as that sounds.

Thanks wall e believe it or not, i was contemplating about the kia optima hybrid...but i had to step back a bit and realize that they're not even close to comparison. And everytime i step inside the TL (from the day i got it)...i still have that smile on my face =Looks good on the inside as much as the exterior!

Thanks Turbocoop You're absolutely right...working on our cars is like therapy, that's why i have a couple of projects i'm researching to keep my mind stimulated. And the rewards once you're finished with that project = Priceless

I believe that cars are always a way of therapy. just goin for a simple drive clears my mind, I could only imagine that 22 hrs helped you get a lot of things situated up there(in your head). remember man: life is so short; so take the good with the bad, keep your head held high, and just keep living!

to keep with the Fabo theme: "go hard today, can't worry bout the past cuz that was yesterday, I'm put it on tonight cuz it's my time, I gotta stay on my grind cuz it's my time" - one of my favorite lines in ANY song.

Glad you made it through all of that and decided to keep the TL.

And I agree, there is nothing like taking a drive to clear the mind. Just you, your car, and the road.

tl_rox, with all the replies and support you're receiving it's made me realize just how cool all the people are on acurazine. This is by far the best forum. By the way, based on your first pic I would like to know if you've smoked your rear side markers or are they original type-s? Thanks.

When I got divorced in 2003 I went out & bought a 87' Buick Grand National That same week I got pulled over because of no inspection sticker, I told the cop I just got divorced, paying out my ass for lawyer & now child support, completely forgot about the inspection & now on my way to liquor store to buy rum & go home to my POS one bedroom apartment to drink by myself. His Reply: I've been there too, here are you papers, please have a good day.

Why would you want to get rid of that? The TL looks great! Good choice - lose the extra baggage and keep what's treated you right.

BTW what's the 'shortened door look' mod?

Thanks GoldenShoes I love long drives, and definitely helped with the situation...lots of self-talk as well, and the scenery...you can't go wrong with that! And yes...it's my time!

Thanks brother the long drive is so peaceful...i've done this drive about 10 years straight, and i'm doin it again in 2 months. People think i'm crazy, but it's so therapeutic for me!

I know brother, i can't thank you guys enough cause it's helping me out...that's why i love this forum...very supportive in every way! I actually bought the Type-S side Markers, and love them...i think it flows better with the TL.

Here's a link of my album: (and the part # is on there as well!)

Thanks brother It was a thought that came to mind cause of the gas prices...but i just couldn't let her go (the TL), i just have to cut down on other things to compensate

The shortened door lock mod is when you cut your door knobs to be shorter when it's locked... cause with our cars, it sticks out too much. Here's a DIY link if you're interested:

Ahh gotcha, read the DIY, looks tempting, I'll have to see how much I hit it with my arm but never bothered me before.

As many cars don't have those posts anymore, I did like having them just in case. Not that I plan on being in the situation, but let's say I'm in a life or death spot (car fire, car sinking in water) and the power is cut/unlock button not working. Me pulling up that lock post could be what saves my life....

Thanks for the info tho, tempting... And as you said, with gas prices going up, you know you want to buy someone pretty things - who's more deserving, your ex or your car?

got an 08 NAVi in 08 - took over a leased one but gave it away.

got an 07 NAVi - purchased it outright. was tired of leasing.

made the HUGE HUGE HUGE mistake of trading in the 07 CGP for an 08 RDX tech. absolutely hated the RDX and its whiney bitch of a 4cyl turbo motor.. so...

got an 08 NAVi ASM -my all time favorite color!

so yes.. 4 TLs ..all 3G .. within 4yrs lol!!! I know there's nothing else out there that compares to the value and overall sexiness of this car.

If you've named your car then it's a good sign that you shouldn't get rid of it. At that point, it's part of the family .

I have great memories with every one of my cars, from my first one in high school until now. I actually miss all of them quite a bit. My TL is by far the nicest car I've owned but what I wouldn't give to cruise in my old '77 camaro 3-speed 6 banger again . I've always thought of cars as an intimate part of my life. Not that I'd put anyone I love before my car, and I certainly wouldn't be severly heartbroken if I lost my car. It's just a material possesion at the end of the day. But your car tends to be with you through the thick and thin of life and that it sort of acts as a partner. You take care of it and it takes care of you. It sounds like you think a little bit that way and if so, there's nothing wrong with that. Nothing at all.

That was my concern as well prior to doing the DIY, so my locks aren't completely flushed...i left enough clearance so i'm still able to pull it up manually with ease It definitely looks cleaner as well when the doors are locked. I'm definitely gonna be buying some things to keep me occupied with the car...seems to be iSimple and a decklid lined up.

Thanks losiglow I've named all my cars, lol...it's cray but, i don't know, we all have that bond with our vehicles especially if you're a car enthusiast. But you're right, it is just a material possession at the end of the day. Trust me, i am more thankful and blessed for my health, friends, and a full-time job for me to survive...many people do not have the luxury to have those. I definitely count my blessings...God is good, all the time!
