Just bought my TL: First thoughts
Just bought my TL: First thoughts
Several months ago I decided it was time to finally get myself a nice ride. After years of putting money into my house, yard and wife (gone now haha) it was time to do something for me! I'd initially set my eyes on either an is250, A4, or G35. I've owned Hondas my entire life and hadn't even considered a TL until someone suggested it to me.
I live in a very rural area with the closest Acura dealership 300+kms from here so there are none of them on the road here. I eventually found one at a dealer 4 hours north and decided to take it for a test drive. This poor car had been riced out and shit kicked. The spoiler on the back looked much like a park bench, the grille, wheels and the lower 3" of the car had been painted black and the beautiful audio center had the cheapest double din possible crammed in it. Despite all this I was still thoroughly impressed with the car, knowing all to well if I were to find one that hadn't had a cursed life I'd fall in love with it.
Last week on a whim, I filled out an online credit app for an '08 NBP Base 5AT and was approved in less than a day! Sadly the car was 7 hours south and it's easter weekend so it had to be a quick trip. Upon arriving, all the mods and upgrades i'd insisted i'd be doing within the first few months flew out the window. The car was perfect as is! It has 75000kms on it ( 42000ish miles iirc ) The car is mechanically sound as can be and had been regularly maintained at it's dealer. It's biggest shortcoming was the fact that it's body has a lot of.....character, lol. along with a number of minor nicks and scrapes, there are a few tiny dents next to the driver door handle, and a noticeable rub on the lower front bumper. These are minor in my mind and were used as a negotiation tool. Sadly upon arriving home I'd noticed that the very inside corners of my headlights were a tad foggy and there was a 1" crack in the front bumper jetting straight downward from the center of the passenger side headlight that I didn't see when buying the car.
I was happy that I had a long drive home as it gave ample time to test her out.
Keep in mind that I've never driven anything as fancy as this car. Everything in the cabin is well thought out and I was amazed at the quality of the interior, the car rolls like a lady when gently driven and is a beast when you lay into it. I was very pleased with it's engine and transmission. Within an hour I felt comfortable throwing it into corners and was having a blast. I'd read that the cars interior noise is somewhat more noticeable than others in it's class but that's what a stereo is for
the ride was a hair less smooth than I'd expected but that could even due to the suspension being fairly aged, tirse ect.
I was quite pleased with my fuel consumption and was no longer concerned with upgrading to premium fuel. It's safe to say I've fallen in love with my TL and after a season or two of getting used to her, am excited to start making her my own and unique!

Glad you're happy with the Easter present, but one needs not to be an impulse buyer and not to be overwhelmed with the appearance of a car, but needs to look into all the "minor" defects and be open-minded when searching and realize that there are more out there.
Regardless of my thoughts, I'm certain you'll enjoy the car, so good luck.

Glad to hear that you love it and got accustomed to it quickly.
Welcome to the site as this is my first post
I'm going to be making my first purchase of a rather very nice car as well. I hit a deer a few weeks back and with my car being rather old and not worth much, insurance decided to total it.
Perfect timing as a family member is going to be buying a '12 TL and sell his '04 TL to me for a rather very fair price. Has just above 150,000k miles. This car also has some nicks and dings, but those are minor things when you are getting the car for $4500.
Anyways, welcome! Great looking ride you have.
