Jet Black Painted roof on white TL 08

I am painting my tail lights black tommorow and I was thinking about painting the roof Jet Black as well.

I figured it would be a nice look kinda like a panoramic look, to go with 15% tints, painted tails and possibly black wheels.

What do you guys think???

I leased the car i am also wondering if anyone knows if the bank will give me shit when i have to return it?

Also if anyone seen the look before please post pics im dieing to see what it would look like

I like the idea, but the car is not yours, it's the banks. So you can't do anything to the car, noticeable mods period.

I just went for a stoggie while looking at my WDP, and I've changed my mind, it wouldn't look good, our roof is too curvy, you will lose the bold lines that we currently have.

The E class has this option on white, but its a solid dark glass, which does look nice.

Custom paint on a leased car is just NOT a good idea regardless of how it might look...

I've heard of people using tint paper instead painting it so that when its time to turn the car back in, all you have to do is peel it off. I've seen it done on a G35 sedan.

ANY mods you do on a leased car must be returned to factory conditions as when you received the vehicle when you purchased it.

Check out your lease papers, itll say the same things. Plus not worth the money cuz you gonna be returning it to them, and wasted money . IMO

A decent alternative to paint is a vinyl overlay. Normally cheaper than painting the roof. Ive been qouted at close to 500$ to paint my roof, found that a vinyl overlay is cheaper, and since you are on a lease you can remove the vinyl and have the original paint un touched.

Problem with vinyl is though, after its been baked on with the sun its a bitch to take off. Gotta pull out the razor blade, which I dont think would be good for the paint

Had a AUM (hindu symbol) placed on my rear window on my truck back in the day, went to take it off cuz the chrome faded away and turned silver, and had to use a razor blade to take it off

Ah yes, I meant vinyl. Even though it looks ok, to me, its borderline ricer.

Why not vinyl it? My friend does stickers and vinyled a few cars on the roof and said they had no problem with it. My friend uses some top quality vinyl and it will last for 8-10 years if park your car in the garage most of the time or under a carport. It's easy and it is cheap and it is easy to peel off once your car lease is due.

If you do something that extreme on your leased car you will get killed for it. Might as well consider a buyout at the end. Vinyl is definitely the best option here but you will get "tan-lines" when you give your car back. The car will naturally fade or lose some gloss. It might be noticable after 3 yrs of use. And after all those months of baking that adhesive is going to yellow and really gunk up on your roof. You'd have to find a place that had large wide rolls of black vinyl to do it in one piece.

There is a WDP on this forum who did the black roof. I think it sounded bad in theory but once he had it done, it looked pretty good actually. (Not that I'd do it.)

I think it's like putting a fake antenna, fake vent or scoop on your car......It's a wannabe mod. I'd rather have the real panoramic roof. A spoiler or bodykit is just about as functionless as I can get.

But if you are looking for that contrasted white/black theme just for looks, I can understand that.

The Panoramic roof is available as a $2k option on any color E-class by the way, not just white. It just happens to be the color you notice it on the most. Nowadays so many cars have them like the ES350, X3, X5 etc. etc. If the TL had the option I would have jumped on it, I just love sunroofs. But as someone else pointed out, it might look funny because the TL has a unique curve to it's roof.

what about a simple window tint job to my leased Acura? Will I have to remove once I turn it in to the dealer?

I think it depends on how strict or picky that particular dealer is on leased cars. if the tint isn't that dark and noticeable AND is legal or acceptable, then it should be fine. as others stated, check the contract or lease agreement.

As long as the tints are legal in the state the car is registered in, you won't have a problem.

You CAN mod a leased car, you just have to pay whatever Acura charges to put it back to stock. Could get expensive.

Some things they'd never notice; an RSB for example. Others you take off yourself pretty easy: TB Spacer, CAI, Wheels, etc.

Read your lease terms.

BTW - last I knew AHFC lease used a 3rd party service for lease return inspections. They come to you a few weeks before lease expiration. The dealer has nothing to do with it.
