Jesus...why me? My TL got rear ended... =(

The guy that hit me

Happened yesterday on my way home from work....

I was gently slowing down coming to a stop. Then I was at a full stop on the freeway due to traffic. 5-10 secs later I look into my rearview mirror. Some guy sped into the my lane as I was stopped. Scrreeech.....then BAM!!!!!!!

In the first picture you can actually see that the quarter panel behind the driver is buckling. The driver's rear passenger door is pinched. The corners of the tail lights are cracked.

Second picture show the side view extent of the damage. Trunk lifted and pushed in, bumper falling off, scratches and paint falling off. The mufflers have been pushed in, and are hanging very low. Doesn't look good.

From the looks of his car...you know he was going FAST....

I don't know if the driver's rear passeger door will open nor if the trunk will open. I will let the insurance inspector figure that one and the extent of internal damage. The car still runs.

More bad news...the other driver spoke no english, no license, no insurance. Asked me "habla espanol?" at that point I knew things were gonna be bad.

One thing you may notice is the background is different in the pictures, that is because we had to get off the freeway to clear traffic...and what a sight it was...

Anyone able to suggest a reputable body shop in the Orange County area in CA? From the exterior looks I think its gonna cost a lot of money...

Sorry for the crappy pics it was taken with my cell phone. I will post more pics once I get a chance.

Wow man....

No English..No license...No Insurance?!

You gotta be kidding me man....why would this bozo be speeding in stop and go traffic? He must've at least been going 40-50 mph, in an old crappy truck like that..there's no way he can stop in time.

I would be raging, calling the police and demanding he was arrested. Man I'm just angry right now looking at the pics of your car. Some people are just idiots and their seed should never be allowed to prosper.

CHP arrived 10-15 minutes later. Thankfully he spoke fluent spanish. Unfortunately there wasnt much that could be done. Citation and impound the vehicle. Without proper identification, the other party can give any name, info they want, and there is no way to verify it.

They should be arrested and heavily fined. It sucks. You'll have to take the hit and claim it on your insurance.

Damn man. Sorry to see this, but definitely glad u came out alright. Compared with his F'ed up car, you actually didn't fare all that bad considering the speed and everything. Hope you can get at least some claim from insurance and not have to cough up all that $$. Good luck with the rebuild.

ouch, it's good to hear that you are OK. A reputable shop should charge about 10K to fix the damage since a bit of frame work and checking will need to be done to insure the car is perfectly straight. The TL has a UNIBODY construction where it is all one piece and they support each other. You do have uninsured driver's insurance right? I know deathtotoasters had it when his TL was T-Boned and he walked away with 250/500K... (had to go to hospital, broken ribs and arm)

Sucks dude but you know what that means....free upgrades. Type-s conversion everything(lights/bumper/lip/exhaust). Get rid off the wing spoiler if you don't like it. Make sure the navi doesn't have any problem because the navi isn't cheap.

Wow so sorry to hear about this!!!! You mentioned you heard the screeching tires and then felt the hit.....How hard was the impact felt in cabin? Was it strong enought to jolt you forward? I know our TLs are really safe cars but I was just curious since I've never experienced any collision and hope not to (knock on wood). I did have a close call a few weeks ago in bumper to bumper traffic, some girl in a Malibu...I looked in my rear view mirror and saw that she was not stopping, then I heard a little screech. Luckily she did stop in time.

Looking at your pictures makes me really mad, I think I would have figured out a way to call the border patrol right then and there. I have no sympathy for people who drive without insurance/license. He was probably an illegal alien.

I hope you get your car fixed to perfection. Keep us updated how your insurance handles this for you. GL

In the cabin the impact felt very strong. The sound in even louder inside. I had about a 3 ft of clearance from the vehicle in front of me. The force jolted the whole car forward maybe of foot of so, or at least if felt like it. My foot was ligthly holding the break pedal but due to the shock of impact my foot slipped off the brakes and rolled forward a bit. Luckily split seconds prior to getting plowed the car in front of me began inching forward, so my front end was spared.

I really think that if my foot had been solidly planted on the brakes, the damage would have been worse. But because the car rolled forward, not all the energy was absorbed by the body of the car.

The worst part of it all, was getting out of the car, and assessing the damage.

Good info, I will bring that up during damage assessment. I will be going in for a quote Monday morning and keep you all posted and what the estimate is going to be.

Yes, full coverage on the vehicle.

If you are in north Orange County I would highly recommend Anaheim Hills Auto Body. I and a few members have had there cars repaired there and they do excellent work. They typically work on high end cars and is the preferred body shop for Anaheim Hills Mercedes Benz. The do an excellent job paint matching Anthracite.

Wrong forum.

Trojan man Sorry to hear about the accident. It drives me nuts how many people drive around without valid insurance or even a drivers licence. It's a shame, but in the end all that matter's is that you are alright. The car is always replaceable.

I got an estimate from the body shop recommended by the insurance company. The external damage so far is approximately $9k. Might be higher once they get to inspect the internal damage.

I went to get a quote from this repair shop. I was very impressed with their facility. It is clean, spacious and looks very professional. The man I spoke to told me that he woud need the car to tear down and assess the damage. He told me that getting an estimate for external body damage would not tell the whole story. Anyhow, while there I saw a lot of mercedes, BMWs, an 09 TSX and a familiar car...

The approximate repair time is about 3 weeks.

Quick Reply: Jesus...why me? My TL got rear ended... =(
