Jeremy Clarkson reviews Nissan 350Z

Turns out I'm not the only one who thinks the Z doesn't feel fast. Cool vid.

Here's a dyno of a G35 coupe:

Its rated at 280 HP and 270 TQ. As you can see, on dyno it shows a 31% drivetrain loss in HP and 26% drivetrain loss in TQ. No wonder it doesn't "feel" fast.

Take a look at the torque curve, it really falls off after 5000rpm.
That is why TL could possibly beat it.

I didn't like that review very much. There were many, many comments that made me feel that the reviewer's opinions were quite different from my own.

The engine sound: I thought it sounded great. I MUCH prefer the sound of the J32 in the 04 TL, but that's why I bought a luxury/performance sedan, not a sports car. Most people who buy cars like the Z enjoy the engine roar.

He called the car bloated and big, referring to American cars as "sofas." Okay...

He says the car is not practical because you can't fit your dog in the trunk. Hello! It's a sports car. And why would you want your dog in a sports car? We may enjoy the twisties, but I bet it would be Vomit Central for a canine...

Well, I did learn something, though -- I didn't know the VQ35 had its origins in France.

I wonder what this guy would have thought of the S2000, or even the new TL...

Oh, and that torque curve that was posted -- there may be a bit of drivetrain loss, but the torque curve was sooo flat. I didn't realize that engine had so much power down low.

as a G coupe owner I can tell you..yeah it may feel slow at times..and honestly that cannot be explained but I guarantee you the car is not slow..dyno test or not it will leave plenty of cars in the dust.

The numbers you quoted are ACTUAL figures which is not meaningful, the dyno chart above is the SAE corrected figures.

I'm sure you must be a G35 coupe owner

Thank you for the link. That was FUNNY AS HELL. This guy just does not like Z's at all. Did one hit him in the arse or something in his younger years?

I'm glad the TL isn't going anywhere near Britain.....I'm sure he'd be the ultimate whiner about it.

Leave it to a brit snob to rag a car that is perfectly fine! He gave the Z a 3 of 10. I guess he would give an s2000 a 3.8, no torque, noisy engine, cheap interior.... I can just hear his blab and I haven't seen his report!!! I bet he drives home in a rusty Citroen 2CV with painted on flowers!!!
