What about fitting the type-s bezel plastic piece onto a 04-06? Is the entire instrument dash cut out the same size and shape? I know the gauges are different, but are the circles the same size? Basically the piece with the silver circles. That's about the only thing I like about the newer gauges. Possible? Anyone looked into it?

Some have done it... but I belive you have to cut out the MID control buttons.
I belive 04-06 has the controls on the cover as to where type-s and base 07-08 have it on the steering wheel.

I wish the TL showed ur speed on a MID display. Kinda like the new civics and mini coopers.. it would realli reduce the amount of TL's speeding i think.
i have a base TL but i try to have a type S interior by making my nav screen color red on red. like when i press the "audio" button :-)

You guys are crazy... They are pretty much the same... I personally like how the steering wheel is "3 spoked" and the MID is in the middle in the 07-08 models.
Also, the two 04-06 pics are from different years. Can anyone tell what year and why?

Success, but damn! It was a bitch, and I don't recommend this mod to to the beginner or the squemish. It was tough! It took me about six hours of cutting, and filing, fitting, and some more filing, then some more filing, and some more fitting, etc. I ended up about an 1/8 of an inch off of level, but it looks very good. The untrained eye would not be able to tell the difference from stock.
Like I said, I'm not sure how many of you want to attempt this mod. I'm sure someone can come up with a better way to do it. I'm glad I did it cause it looks great, but I wish I had better news for you guys. When I first looked at the new gauge bezel, I thought this will be a snap, because the gauge rings come loose from the 2007 S bezel, but I soon became disappointed because the original bezel is all one peice so there was no way to add the rings to the stock bezel.
The first pic shows the stock gauge bezel being removed. The switches attach to the bezel. That was problem number one as there are no switch mounting posts on the 2007 S bezel on that side. See the next pictures that compare the backs of the bezels. I made a template with masking tape from the stock bezel and transferred it to the new bezel. I think that that's where I got the layout a little off as the tape tends to stretch a little when you remove it. I tried to compensate when I laid it on the new bezel. I outlined the holes with a scribe, pierced the plastic at the corners of the cutouts with a drill bit large enough to allow the saw blade to enter, and used a coping saw with a fine blade to do the initial cut outs. It was very slow going and demands a lot of patience. Once I made the cutouts I used the MID switch to compare the necessary opening sizes and used jewler's files to shape the holes for as perfect of a match as I could. Again, you have to be very patient with the process. I was tempted to give up a couple of times, but I kept on working the openings until the switch fitted just right.
To mount the switch I used two 1/4 x 1/2 inch nylon posts purchased at Lowes in the specialty hardware. The one that went at the back of the switch had to have about a 1/4 inch cut off of it to make the switch level with the bezel. I screwed the switch to the posts and epoxied them in place with Quickset J.B. Weld. Held it in place for about five minutes and then let it set for about an hour before I re-installed it.
I took the rings off while I did all of this to prevent damage to them and as they are painted a Charcoal Grey Silver (I think the S's aluminum trim is kind of a titanium color) I repainted and clearcoated them in a Satin Siver to match the TL's Shift Bezel, Speaker Trim etc.
Let me know what you guys think!
