Which Intake?

I am tired of waiting for the AEM. Do you guys think its worth the wait or should I go with Injen or K&N Typhoon CAI.

I haven't heard anything on the K&N, I just know the Injen fits the AEM bypass so thats what I'm planning eventually, unless the AEM boast some high numbers or I hear something about the K&N.

By the way, did you ever tell me what the caliper painting system was?

Anyway if you want an Intake now you can't go wrong with Injen.

I've heard great things about the icebox but I didn't even know one was in development for the 3G TL.

I had this same question but no one seemed to answer. Hopefully someone gives you a good answer because I'm in the process of the same decision also.

I would choose whichever one has a bypass valve. This is especially important to me being that I live in South Florida. I believe the only one that will have this option will be AEM.

Injen and K&N are both available now and are very similar in many ways - shape, size, filter size and placement. Haven't seen the AEM, but it will probably share many of these similarities. Since they are all so similar, I'd expect them to produce similar results. K&N has some nice features - two mounting points, can be run as a short ram, and PCV connection without removing the factory hard pipe (and breaking a coolant line). IMO the Injen looks nicer - especially in black.

I really liked the design and quality of the icebox used in second gen TL/CL's. I assume that will be one of the products developed as part of the supercharger package - but I'm not certain about that.

Ali...i'm glad to see you still posting. i thought your were headed to the middle east?? as far as the CAIs, they will probably produce about the same numbers. go with the injen. aem has just taken forever to release their product. if you take a close look, its pretty much the K&N Typhoon with AEM letters on it.

January is the set date for deployment, but changes are occuring but no change for my unit as of yet. So you would take Injen over K&N?

probably injen over K&N. Injen comes with 3" pipe. and my acura dealer carries it which means it will still be covered under my factory warranty.

Just order a Injen Intake, I was leaning towards K&N but crutchfield (who has the lowest price) is out of stock of all four colors.

I think I want the AEM, they posted a 20hp gain, don't know if I should believe that, I'll wait for someone to dyno and post results.

Noticeably absent in the K&N line is a BLACK intake. I would imagine it would sell more than Red and Blue, plus it would look much better!

I may buy the Injen for that reason alone (they will all be roughly equivalent in terms of performance)!

Does the Injen lack a bypass??

don't get an intake.

You will LOVE the sound for the first 6 months, then you will HATE the sound in after that. Sure, your car is a luxury "sports" sedan, but honestly, do you want your car farting around town like a civic?

And as for the "performance" aspect of an intake, you'll gain about 3 WHP if that. Most likely, you'll lose some tourque.. If you want performance Bolt ons will do shit. Save up for a supercharger if you want to go fast.

to those who are planning to get the AEM by-pass valve:

BE WARRY!!!!

I see it as a waste of money and power. For it to work, the filter has to be pretty damn close to COMPLETLY submerged. Think about that for a sec. If it were completley submerged, you would already have water in your car and you would be screwed.
Also, the design of the bypass valve has lead to NUMEROUS failures. The plastic breaks, the the part comes apart and lodges in your throttle body-wedging it open.

Again, this is just my OWN opinion and a BUYER BEWARE alert that I feel is necesary to tell to those who are considering purchasing it.

they would've been billionaires already if this was the case. those numbers have been up on their site for the longest time. there has been more bigfoot sightings than any of the 04 TL CAI from AEM. the troops will probably find Osama Bin Laden before this product comes out.

Sorry I am just trying to figure something out, if it has a "car farting civic sound" why didnt you dislike the sound right off the bat. I understand if the noise became a annoying after a while.

Wow, I've never heard anyone mention this. You state this is your "own opinion", have you heard of cases where this has happened? I'm extremely curious. Thanks.

Well, at first, it didn't sound like that... I t sounded like a cool low growl... then, after hearing it everytime I hit the gas for 6 months. It just got really annoying, but I did like the sound at first.

Though I don't agree with the "car farting Civic sound" description, my experience was similar: http://www.acura-tl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94773

Others' experiences may vary, and despite my best efforts to resist I am getting older...

the whistling sound is what was being referred to. Injen is known to have that whistling sound when you rev the engine up.

Came across this web site regarding the K&N Typhoon product.

http://www.knfilterchargers.com/sear...Prod=69-0021TS

It shows a dyno chart with the kit giving an 04 TL 6MT an additional 6.8HP (I assume that's to the wheels).

There are a couple of stoires over at A-cl.com about the plastic breaking and lodging in the throttle body. Can't give you a link, but if you search, you will find them.
