Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rating for 2004 TL
Not surprisingly, the Acura TL got a Good rating from IIHS. Just wanted to share with fellow TLers.

I'm sure the popularity of the color was a factor - just statistics at work.

For the IIHS side-impact vs. SUVs, I'd recommend looking at the Accord w/ side airbags results at:

Difficult to compare, since IIHS doesn't offer comparable HIC (Head Injury Criterion) scores. They do give the TL just as "GOOD" a rating as the accord for head injury for front and back in the frontal crash. Still no side crash yet.
NHTSA didn't test the accord with SAB from what I can tell. Their link to accord scores are only without SAB

Looks like the picture for the 2 Door 2004 accord has SAB - the picture for the 4 door for side impact doesn't come up. When you look at the HIC for either - they're nearly double what they are for the TL.

Not a Blowhole
The IIHS also are the poeple who issued free hand-held radar guns to police, in the "interest of public safety" - yeah, in the interest of insurance surcharges is more like it.
The test facility is not to far from my home - they used Anthracite because Deep Green Pearlis the fastest color, and like Seabiscuit, it just could not be held o a steady speed to make the tests consistent!!
I did not satudy the intrusion numbers to understand them that much (who cares), but seeing the Volvo numbers, it makes you wonder why anyone buys those cars? I mean, they look better since Ford acquired them (or was it GM?... same difference) but their whole deal was safety, and the tL numbers )raw) look better.
You can see why more race drivers drive M-B's than any oter car when they are driving themselves or their families. Even though the QC has fallen off, the strength of the cars, which one cannot outsource, is still there.

It's interesting that the previous-gen TL, not to mention the outgoing RL model, got poor ratings for head restraints. Though the 2G TL still got "good" overall ratings.
It's nice to know Acura's actively working to improve safety even though their well ahead of many other manufacturers.

Nope - my mistake - Those NHTSA side crash ratings are without SAB, no matter what the picture looks like. So can't directly compare the TL and Accord on NHTSA for HIC.

Just saw that they finally posted the video of the side impact test. Check it out.

and this is what the dummy's head looks like while being hit from the side.
