Instead of using LEDs to have a white Daytime Running Light, can you...

As you all should know, the DRLs that come with our TL is a halogen bulb. It emits a color that is very far off from "white".

Many members here have purchased 9005 LEDs and installed them with the use of a "LED DRL Relay Harness" in order to get the LED DRLs to work at full brightness as well as not have the orange "DRL ERROR" illuminate in the instrument cluster..

Well the price for 9005 LEDs + DRL relay module harness = near ~$50.....

I was wondering if it's possible to just use a plain 'ol 9005 halogen bulb that has the glass tinted slightly blue that helps it give off the "pure white" look?

You know... the ones that are clearly halogen but are advertised as "Xenon style" like these

My question is will these work as DRL lights? I know the DRL circuit only receives half the voltage therefore it illuminates very dimly, but enough to still be seen by other pedestrians. Those "xenon style halogen" bulbs are advertised @ "65W" and what not... Do you guys think it would still work just fine?

The reason why I even ask is because this Lexus GS gave me the idea... It seems like he's running some type of "Xenon style halogen" bulb for his headlights too..

That's a good question and part of the reason why I decided to post here and ask. I have no clue what wattage the DRL's operate on for 04-08 TLs so I don't know if this will work or not.

You need the actual led bulbs and the DRL kit to allow them to run at full brightness (not flicker) and keep the DRL light off on the dash.

I currently have a brand new JLC DRL kit in my possession. If you want it, I'll probably sell it. Just PM me if you do.

You can use a 35 watt halogen in the drl location without a harness.

I put the nokya halogen yellow ones in and they are fine. They light up a nice amber color because of the reduced voltage.

IMO those really blue "xenon look" bulbs look way more blue than white, and that's at full brightness.

The TL DRLs use 9005 bulbs at reduced voltage, which is why they look so brownish. Using those blue bulbs would probably just make it look brownish blue.
