Did you use a helicoil or time-sert to make a good connection for the bolt or did you just retap the threads slightly larger? If the hole you made is too large for the helicoil/timesert it won't lock down in place and will start spinning.

I used a helicoil style set (different company, I don;t have it on me to check the brand) which used a 10.3mm drill, the appropriate tap, and then threads to insert to bring it back to the original size. The bolts do tighten, but only to about 30 foot pounds, when the spec is 40 if I recall.

depending on what kit you used, there is usually a tool/tap/screw that goes in after you put the insert to expand the insert to lock in place. The clamping force is going to be reduced by a bunch.

Hmm, I don't believe mine had that. 10.3mm drill, the tap, the threading, the tool to wind the threading into place, and the piece to jam the thread prong out. Haven't ever seen any directions on instructional videos for that either. I'll have to look deeper and see what I can do. I can certainly pull it all off and carry out additional steps, once I know what to do. Damn I've spent a lot of hours on a stripped screw! At least I'll have a partial radiatior drain for my trouble.

Anyone have any thoughts here? Ways to fix the helicoil insert? Viability of only 30 foot pounds instead of 40 on 2/3 of the bracket to engine attachments? Not sure what my next course of action should be.
