Infamous peeling trim

Cant find the original thread I was looking for so thought I would do a small write up for whoever this may help. I experienced some peeling around the cupholder/ parking brake area. Decided to give wrapping a try, came out great and the price was nice and low.

I ordered: 5ftx1ft wrapping film, (I will link) and a little wrapping tool kit, and you need a hairdryer.

The trim pieces come off with a firm pull section my section. The sounds you will hear are pretty snappy and unpleasant but it is what it is. Be sure all the clips have come out with the molding. Next I cleaned both sides with some rubbing alcohol. The roll is good for both sides just had to cut evenly. Starting with the bottom of the piece, carefully unroll about 4" of the vinyl and press firmly with a squeegee. work the material up the piece, then heat medium temp with a hairdryer. The film is heat activate so only heat where you want it to adhere. begin to trim out the areas with excessive material. You want to leave about 2 inches of extra material all the way around. Now when pulling the material around the piece you will notice curves it will need to stretched in some spots. The radio knob area is a little tricky just warm up and stretch the film over slowly. When the piece is fully covered its just a process of trimming and heating the ends of the wrap to adhere. always leave little extra as the material will shrink when cooling.

once you are done I recommend letting it cool off for a hour so you can see what may have lifted, and the material will naturally shrink in some spots.

Putting them back is simple just pushing from action to section till you feel it click in place.

First tutorial lmk if there's any questions I can help with!

Its bluetooth operated, gets power from the outlet in the center console. Changes to multiple colors and brightness levels, you gotta lift the center console and feed the wires to keep them from being exposed. Not sure what the easy solution would be to get them on only when the door is open

Did you strip the trim first, or put the new wrap right over the old?
