That's pretty darn good Bill thanks for posting it. I don't think I will be able to stop the spread by conventional means. May as well get the cover...

After the third crack I just gave in and put the cover on. I’d give it a 99 out of 100

Doubt anyone else would notice it.

Hello BillMFD3,

Looks good.

What color did you select for your dash (light gray, medium gray, dark gray, taupe grey)? My 2005 interior has the same color as yours and looking at the Coverlay options, the many colors have me confused.

My dash is still intact, but I fear it will eventually happen.

That's what started my crack on the dashboard - the cold (even in Jacksonville, FL). I got a new dash, and ever since November 2019, I have barely driven the car at all, where it stays in a conditioned garage.

Ugh, sucks man. Imagine...a car where you have to NOT drive it and keep it climate/sun protected as much as possible so...that dash don't crack when you DO drive it....

My 06 TL almost made it to 250k miles (at 248k miles now) JUST now started cracking on the left side of the airbag outline. And this is dead of winter. Oh well....it's a daily beater so it'll stay that way until I get rid of it.

yeah it sucks for sure, not gonna lose sleep over it though. gonna brush it under the rug

im leaning towards a covercraft dash cover. probably suede or their limited edition models. i am happy with the fitment/quality of their other product, the sunshade. looked at other brands and i just don't know what im getting. the pictures are of their dash covers on other cars and they dont really look that good. same for the youtube videos. i trust covercraft though

aiming for early spring/late winter install

Good video on dash install. Acura guy has theory on why these cracks start in that area (9:46). Keep in mind, he first installed a "good" used dash which cracked in two months. This video shows the installation of new dash.

Cracked is caused by the glue used to adhere the vinyl onto the dash. The adhesive migrates through the vinyl dash material making it look cloudy/splotchy at first. One the adhesive get's to that point, it's only a matter of time before the cracks start.

My dash cracks haven't been terrible...although I think I may be distracted by how completely demolished both front seats are. The deterioration of the seats was a little surprising - haven't had that happen on this level before.

My dash crack grew pretty damned fast

I ended up buying a Dash Topper and it came in today, with ACURA stitched into it. Looks a little cheesy but w/e its black on black. It looks great. Will do the install when my car isn't surrounded by snow.

Lol, that ACURA stitching is definitely cheesy, but it is what it is. I'm curious to see installation pictures.

Knock on wood, my 2005 dash is still crack-free.

I recommend trying to find someone that will sell you the dash with the brace and harness intact. That way, you can just do a simpler drop in when you pull yours out, but it must have the same options (i.e. navigation, manual, Type S) for this to work.

It's a lot of work, but not too complicated. You'll need two people to help pull it out and put the replacement in. You'll also need to transfer your VIN tag to the used dash.

That's a very good price.

It depends on how long OP is planning on keeping the car. A new dash is about $1k vs $100-$300 used. Plus you have to add labor. I've done a couple and I'll always recommend used.

I wouldn't even bother with a Coverlay.
So would you be able to pull an 08 type s and put in 07 base?? Both have navi.

A base 07/08 dash harness will not work in a Type S. You will lose the paddle shifters and ANC.

Moving this back up.
Going to give this one a go unless someone can post a reason not to.
I see the airbag and speaker are a bit low, but the part looks pretty good.

I like this version much better than the coverlay because it covers that area above the glove compartment.

That carpet doesn't look bad, but still looks fake. With the Coverlay, passengers can rarely tell there's a cover on the dash.

Well, the day has come. I just found my first crack .

I keep my 2005 TL under a cover all winter and my dash was 100% crack free in November 2022 when I winterized it. It was extremely cold during the Christmas/New Year holiday and I suspect the low temperatures finally caught up with hit. I went to check on the car this weekend and found this lovely blemish! I should have pulled that dash from the pull yard in 2020 lol.

PS - When back in stock, I am going to purchase a DashSkin cover. I already emailed them and they placed me on the list. They should be back in stock at some point in March 2023. The price is roughly $80 cheaper than CoverLay and it covers the entire lower glove box area. The only concern is that I don't know of anyone who has installed DashSkin yet so fitment is still unknown. However, I remember seeing @gatrhumpy modify the crap out of his CoverLay only to get results that he didn't like.

I did modify the bejesus out of it from the parts where it met the dash. I wanted as smooth of a transition as possible from the dash cap to the dash, not an ugly bump. I hated the dash cap I had so much I had to find another unmolested dash to install. It's been almost 3 years now, and no dash cracks, Although, I rarely drive the car any more.

I am in the same boat. I've only gone through three tanks of gasoline in the past 36 months (I am not lying). After moving three times, building a house, and having two kids since 2020, I rarely have time to work on my car anymore. I'm hoping 2023 can be a fun year for car modifications though.

While I'm set on the DashSkin option for now, if I run across a nice dash at the local pull yard, it will be hard for me to turn it down.

Let us know when the dashskin is back in stock! Im going to buy either that or the cover lay from RockAuto this year for mine. The dash only had one crack when I got it last year and now there are 4 large ones. I use a sunshade and everything. Not much you can do.

Thanks for the reply Bill, forgot to ask one more question, how did you adhere to your dash? Did you use the supplied adhesive or use another method? I have seen some reports the supplied adhesive does not work in some instances.

i did use the included tube. It lifted up in a few spots. I ended up using something called sugru to fill in gaps where it was noticeable
