The infamous 2008 V6 Toyota Camry versus TL
Fun stuff - I was surprised by the outcome, although I did have a hunch
Anyways, took this guy from a dead stop - I didn't notice until he punched it while he was one car ahead: I played catch up to confirm. Next light, onto the freeway - took it from a dead stop and we stayed even, side-by-side until around 110 - pulled on him a car and half by 140 (flame suit on )
Again, went around the ramp onto the interstate - 2nd gear pull for me after three honks - pulled on him a car length; driver reaction times on this one: he smashed it before I finished the third honk.
Performance mods FTW - "Spirited Street Runs" FTMFL
WAHHOO!!! I love my crank pulley

1300c, the Camry V6 is a supercar.....
Car&Driver
C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 5.8 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 14.5 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 31.0 sec
Street start, 5-60 mph: 6.1 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 14.3 sec @ 99 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 145 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 170 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.81 g
It's a close ratio 6 speed transmission. This, and more hp and torque makes this car so dang fast. I *knew* the acceleration is just about dead even with the regular TL 6MT for the quarter mile, but will slowly get waxed by a 6MT TL from 100~ 150.
Of course, if driven well on a TL 6MT you could edge out the Camry V6 in the quarter mile.
Yes, the Camry V6 beats BOTH TL 5AT and Type-S 5AT in the quarter mile. Wax.
wax man.... buffing... waxing...buffing... waxing... buff buff wax wax

........and of course here comes the TL 6MT
C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 5.6 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 14.5 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 28.4 sec
Street start, 5-60 mph: 6.2 sec
Standing 1/4-mile: 14.3 sec @ 99 mph
Top speed (drag limited): 152 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 174 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.90 g
As both you and I know, the TL 6MT will be faster than the Camry V6 from 0- 130 mph.
My estimate, the TL 5AT should take around 38 seconds from 0- 130 mph. The Type-S Auto should take 35 seconds... uhhh..... tall gears.

Afterall the camry has a detuned version of the IS350's V6 (I believe there's no direct injection in the Camry and it's also missing a few other things), and we all know how fast the IS350 is...that is, the Camry will get "super waxed" by the new Accord 6MT..lol...
Satin, I think most mags correct their performance numbers before publishing? And usually after the correction the numbers tend to be better?

I need to run into one of these on the highway. I've seen a few, but they always seem to be piloted by the geriatric croud. I'd hate to have Gramps inhale his respirator tube at 100 mph.
(Can you get the SE with a 4 cyl? I believe most of the ones I've seen are single outlet exhaust.)

I was exaggerating about the Camry being a supercar... ya know sometimes I have funny behavior... The Camry is indeed a quick car though.

MT, I think you got a little bit confused with what I said..lol..I was only referring to the engine, not the platform/chassis. The Camry uses the 2GR-FE engine, while the IS350 uses the more advanced 2GR-FSE engine that comes with dual injection system (it can use both port injection and direct injection) hence the extra 40hp.
Yea, you can't go much faster than 5.5s from 0-60mph for a stock FWD sedan...I remember reading the comptech SC'ed CL-S, even though it has 369hp, its 0-60mph time isn't any faster than a stock CL-S due to traction problem.
