Im PISSED...really, Buying Acura is pissing me off

Aright.

I live in South Florida andwent to Rick Case Acura.

I went there last month and we made agreement on the price. 31G for w/o Navi.

But at that time, insurance was obstacle so I coundln't get the TL.

Today, I went there again and was looking for with Navi.

I currently have 97 Explorer XLT and I was going to trade it in.

With Navi, 33G plus.............1500 bux for 97 Explorer XLT.

We argued cuz we were expecting atleast 2500. but 1500????(They offered 1000 at the first time, and itwent up to 12, and we stood up and tried to walk out he said 1500..)

Came home and searched Kelly Blue Book and found out that I can expect around 2800 trade-in value from dealer ship.... 2800.

Rick Case is rude.

You know most of dealership, when soon as you walk in,people come to you?

In Rick Case, We stood there, salesmen were walking by and didn't say anything.

No one was in front desk..(for both times I went there)

I am going to Ed Morse tomorrow.

Ah....so what you really mean to say is, "Im PISSED...really, Buying (an) Acura from Rick Case is pissing me off."

And if you think that's bad, try buying a Porsche from Rick Case. Heck, I'll bet he doesn't even sell Porsches, the lout.

KKB said I can expect around 2800 for the trade-in from dealer???

Ok, 97 Ford Explorer XLT, 160,000 miles.

How much do you guys think I can get it for that thing?

If you havent replaced the tranny yet I would say the offer isnt too bad. They gave us 600 for a 97 taurus with 80k miles. KBB said 1500, and they said if we sell it on our own we could get that much, but my dad new it would probably brake within 30 days so... Fords are legendary for there horrible trannys, so I could see them being worried about that.

You can get whatever you can get for it, sell it yourself if you feel like going through the trouble. What are you whining about? I don't care what car you're buying, or what car you're trading in, salesmen will try and maximize the money they make off you. Grow up, and don't come here and post about how Acura is doing you wrong.

KBB and all of the book haven't taken into account yet the decline in demand for SUVs (except the smallest ones) due to gas prices. Many dealers won't even bid on a SUV or big pickup, from what I've read. They don't want them at any price, because their lot is full of them, and they aren't selling.

If the dealer can't sell an SUV for book retail, or anywhere near it, how can they be expected to pay book trade-in value?

But Im NOT going to go to Rick Case again.

3,3700 for with Navi??? and 31000 w/o Navi.... I kinda like that price but I don't know.

Since Im cheap little bastard so Im gonna work out that price. like...32500?

That dealership is doing you a favor by taking back that Explorer. They will have a tough time selling it. 160K on a Honda Civic would be no problem but an Explorer?

Not doing a favor... or do they plan on selling.. it will be at a auction house within a week and they are hoping to get the $800 at auction... and know they can not get the $1500...

But people do not know how this works and get all pissed off at the dealership...

What they told me is 'yes, you can get more for the car if you sell it yourself, but we do not want to take the chance' ... remember, all high mileage cars go to auction..

Formula is right,
KBB is just a suggested amount. It's obvious that no matter what the trade in vehicle, dealerships will try to low ball you. But when it's a vehicle like yours the best you'll get is auction price (or a tad more depending on your purchase "deal"). I dislike dealers but given your issue you have to understand they will only want to offer a trade-in amount equal to or less than the max they "know" they can get rid of it for (worse case ussually)... In this case they are not ripping you off, rather just making a sound business decision. (They're still bastards though)

Understand your pain.

Blue book schmoo book. Let's get real! You'll never make the money you would selling the vehicle yourself. For those of you who think you got a fair trade in price they stuck it to you on the price of the new car, or they stuck it to you on the financing end, or both. Shop for your car on line without the pressure. The best thing to do is arrange everything yourself before you get to the dealer, know exactly what the price of the car is (not the monthly payment you can afford), get financing estimates from several institutions and one from the dealer and compare. Beware the extras they throw at you at signing. They sell Acura extended warranties on Ebay, make the dealer match it. Don't buy silly paint/interior warranties...waste of money.
If you purchase ANY extras use Ebay as a price guide, the dealer should match your price online, and beware install/labor charges, $70-75 is fair, but 3 hours to install body side moulding is not, haggle before you buy! Remember the bottom line is you worked long hours to pay for the car don't give anyone the opportunity to make anymore money off of you. Lastly, I am not trashing any dealership, just being realistic. They will take as much money from you as YOU let them, so before you go in to do battle, be prepared to walk out, there are other dealers out there. GOOD LUCK!

160K is a lot of miles, especially for a Ford. I got TL to replace my '97 Camry with 173K on it. Toyota dealership was offering $2500 if I bought an Avalon, the Acura only offered $1400. I decided to sell it by owner and got $3500.
High mileage cars are not desirable so don't expect a good trade-in unless the dealer jacks up the price of the new car.

I recently went shopping at a local Honda dealership for an '05 Honda Pilot with a trade, they offered me $1,200.00 for a '97 acura 2.2cl with 159,000 miles. Needlees to say I walked out and sold it privately for $4,500.00. Sell it privately, it is inconvenient but worth it. I purchased my Tl from Rick Case Acura in '04, their sales dept was o.k. but their service department SUCKED, will not do any type of business with them again.

I made that mistake when I got my Maxima (traded in a 2001 Mustang GT), never again though.

This time, I sold my Maxima first, THEN got the TL.

Dealers will be dealers. I got offered $2000 for my Maxima (96 SE with over 140,000 miles/something like that) told them I would walk and headed 30 minutes out of town to another Acura dealership and they gave me $3000.00. I cut them a check, so they could not make back that money anywhere other than sticker. Pays not to be in a rush to buy. As Smokey Robinson says "My momma told me you gotta shop around.."

honestly - 1500 ain't a bad offer for your car. That is how much I would expect for it if I were you giving it to a dealer as a trade-in. Save yourself the headache of trying to find a buyer yourself and bite the bullet on the extra 1K you think its worth and get the TL.

And if a dealer doesn't treat you w/ respect - just ask to see the manager, let the manager know that you are taking your business elsewhere because of the lack of attention/respect. That is what I did once and I felt good walking out of the place and going 3 miles over to their competitor.

I was going to buy from WPB but the guy never called me back. I did all my work through the net and got the price I wanted. It took me two weeks. Rick Starr was great, I put 1k down on my CC to hold the car, went to the dealership, drove the car and signed paperwork and was out of there in an hour.

Why don't you just sell it to KBB? Come on give me break who want's to buy a 9 year old 160 k mile vehicle, especially an explorer with all the bad publicity they have gotten?

When I bought my TL, I had a 98 Buick LeSabre w/ 85 k miles ( I had inherited it 4 years ago w/ 10k mi.). Dealer offered me $1200, I said no thanks, listed it on eBay and wound up selling it locally to a bidder and ending the auction early and getting $4000.

Moral to the story is no high end dealer is going to want a POS sitting on their lot so they will lowball, you if you want more sell it yourself!

If it looks great, it sounds like they are going to us it to sell other cars and point to yours and say... look at that .. we can go 235K and still look good...

Obviously not trying to sell it on the showroom unless you live in Bubbaville...

If they put your 235k mile Civic in the showroom to show how Hondas hold up over time, they'd bury my 47k mile TL out behind the building.
