SUBJECT: Acura Vin # 19UUA66254A013516
Dear Mr.Colliver:
I hope you will have time to read this memo, I purchased a 2004 Acura VIN# 19UUA66254A013516 from Ron Tonkin Acura 9655 S. W. Canyon Rd. Portland, Or. On December 30th. 2004.
I was met on the lot and from the first greeting I was impressed. You asked in your letter if “the purchase experience met my highest expectations”. The answer to that question is yes. I drive for business about 50,000 miles per year, and get a new car every two years.
I was introduced to Mr. Joel Fowler, Silver Level Sales Consultant. This was not your typical used car salesman. Joel was a professional sales person and knew the answers to every question I had. Being a Sales Engineer I had a lot of questions. He did not push me at all and made sure before we went for a test-drive that he had explained all of the safety features to me. This is the best sales person and dealership I have ever worked with.
On January 6th. At 8:30 AM I was hit by a four wheel drive pickup truck, as you can see by the attached photo my Acura was a total loss.
The reason for this memo is two parts. First is to inform you that you have a dealer that is the best run dealership I have done business with, and a sales staff that was great. I spoke with Joel while I was in the hospital and never once did he say anything about selling me another car. He was concerned about me not selling another car.
Part two is your cars, I am writing this memo because I was driving a 2004 Acura TL, and I was told by the Oregon State Police that if I was in any other car I would have been killed. After I was flown to the hospital I was informed that due to the Air Bags and all of the safety features of the Acura are the reasons I survived.
I was I the hospital for six days, no broken bones no internal injuries; I was banged up but will be back to work soon.
Please keep-making cars with all the safety features and please keep improving them. Will I buy another car? YES, and it will be an Acura, and I will buy it from Joel at Ron Tonkin Acura.
Thanks for your time.
William H. Nymeyer
In case you didn't read the top... this guy lived!!!! and it was only because of Acura's Safty measures in this car!!

If it's not true, that's a helluva chop job or shop job, whichever.
If it is true, that's a helluva accident. And it should be required reading for all those people who are racing on public roads and streets because if they cause an accident, they might be the one who survives and hopefully will spend a long time in jail.

THere are 5 william nymeyers in oregon, I am continuing my search to see if I can narrow down the location to confirm his existance, and maybe give him a call.
That adress is non existant, but the area code is acurate to the road. I am sure I could find him on ATT, and I have nothing better to do, but I am too tired. I'm sure this is a true story. The driver seat seems survivable. I sent a link to this thread to acura of boston so if they want to use it as a sales edge they will have to further research it. I hope its true Poor car
For my third trick... I just heard someone was metavaked(sp?) from an Acura on 128 South in MA near university road Exit 17. My mom thinks it was a TL(but she very well may be wrong) and if it is she has no idea which Gen. All I know is it was possibly flipped and is/was green.
Another safety question: Does the TL have side rear airbags?

I wonder if that is the pickup on the left side on the bottem pic. This person is plugging the dealer a little much, I would be more impressed by the car, not the sales person and dealer if I survived something like this. When discussing an accident the required a helicopter the dealer would come to mind much later. I wouldnt start off about "joel." Well, either way I am pretty sure this is survivable, I see little blood(some on the seat corner) and the compartment looks pretty well intact. Note the lower tube support on the pics of the inside out door.

I meant that it does not have the side airbags in the seats or doors in the way cars like Mercedes does.

This is a perfect example of Honda's use of energy absorbing design. They are on the cutting edge with this. Sadly, many times it means the cars suffer extensive damage. But, the fact that the vehicle absorbs the impact & tons of force generated means many Honda owners survive to buy another.
