I'm cracking up!

Or, at least my windshield is.

Two days ago, something hit my windshield and started a small crack. Today, the crack is going across about 3/4 of the windshield.

Needless to say, I need to get the windshield replaced.

Anyone know how much a new winshield installation is from Acura?

Will this raise my insurance rates?

Should only cost you your comprehensive deductible...and if you work with the vendor, sometimes they will cover your deductible - or at least a portion of it cuz they end up ripping off your insurance co. They will be happy just to have your business

Call your insurance co. first and make sure you specify OEM glass when you find your vendor.

In the meantime, make sure you leave a window or your moonroof cracked open on hot days...otherwise that crack will spread quickly from the inside cabin pressure!

And no, it won't increase your insurance premium!

Good luck!

Mine cost $578 or so, going from memory.

It should not raise insurance.

No insurance hike at all. I had 3 replacements on my former Camry due to flying rocks. As others have mentioned, check with your insurance to see if you have glass coverage. It's totally free here in MA if you have comprehensive insurance. Good luck and keep us updated.

Jazz,

I think this may be different from state to state; but in Florida there is no cost or deductable to replace a cracked windsheild.

Almost 1 year ago, I had the same thing happen to my Civic. I called my insurance company (State Farm) and explained the problem. They gave me a number for an auto glass shop from their list of approved service shops.

The glass shop I called brought the exact windsheild I needed to my house the very next morning. It was installed in about 20 minutes. There was no increase on my coverage rate, and there was no charge for the glass (except that I tipped the installer for the quick, at-home service).

Well, I just got off the phone with Progressive, and they said there shouldn't be any rate change. (Cool!)

No deductible, either (Cooler!)

The biggest problem that I am facing is that Acura is using the new acoustic layer in the front windshield that nobody has heard of. So far, everybody I've talked to at the insurance company & the glass replacement company have said they were going to replace the windshield with an equivilent part. I'm sure it would fit, but it probably would not be the same as an Acura part.

The glass replacement company is now ordering the replacement windshield from Honda, so hopefully I'll get the right thing!

GotJazz:

Take the information down from the left-hand bottom corner of the driver's side - all the glass info. Make sure it matches the new one when you get it.
