I'm afraid of 6th gear..

I feel like i'm going to go into reverse everytime I shift into 6th; the car DOES have a lockout right? Has anyone managed to do a shift from 5th to reverse instead of 6th?

Just want to make sure it's not possible so I'll feel a bit more comfortable when going into it..

not possible. There is a lockout at anything over 5MPH if not lower......You would really have to put a lot of force onto the shifter to get it past 6th and into reverse!

I was a little nervous about that too when i first got mine but after my first mis shift from 5th to 3rd I learned to not be such a pussy with it. I was use to 5spds as well. Sometimes if i'm rolling backwards out of my driveway at like .5mph I can't get it into reverse.

It's definitely awkward at first. You'll probably find yourself cruising in 5th just because you forgot about 6th. Other times you'll look down at the shifter & think your in 4th when your actually in 6th just because it's pointing rearward. It takes time, but it's no biggie.

I have 3 5MT cars and 1 6MT. Only recently have I been able to switch back & forth between all 4 cars without issue...

I did that to Timmah when I first got the car but get into the habit of pushing it over until you feel it stop.

You'll know what Im talkin about. Theres a minor stop you'll feel. When you take it out of fifth center it and then push it over to that stop....

great question! never had that issue buddy...never even crossed my mind of it being an issue? this is my first MT car...I have mistakenly in my early days 1 year ago, downshifted from 6th to 3rd instead of 6th-->5th...but that only happened like once...

No Worries

Yup, when shifting out of 5th, just keep pressure on the shifter to keep it to the right and you will get 6th. No reverse possible at speed (unless maybe you are built like Conan).

I felt like that too, especially since it was my first manual car. Never had a problem though, I just kind of keep it to the right (<---- sounds REAL stupid)...
