Donte, that was the bumper test (which our TL failed).

It did not exactly fail, just got a marginal rating. The deal there is that the consumer institute was testing for costs associated with these accidents, not safety. As much as I don't want to have to pay big $$ for small accidents, it is the safety aspect that is the most important.

It's true, I should've been more specific. Thanks!

I saw it tested on Dateline on Sunday night I believe. It was the partial frontal collission at 40mph. It was painful to see a TL crashed like that, but the good news is that it got the institute's highest rating. Oh...so did the TSX.

Good to see the car perform well - just in case. Bumper Test - The bumper test always gets a lot of press, but IIHS is far too self serving here. I don't want a car with bumpers off a 1980 Ford Escort. I'd like to see the costs come down, but I prefer to see the focus on style and safety - and I'm willing to pay for it. With the TL, stronger bumpers would likely interfere with Honda's pedestrian safety efforts. I was very surprised to learn this, but Honda engineers even considered the safety of wayward pedestrians in the design of the TL. This is the first time I've heard of this in any car.

Honda has moved to the position of being the preemminent car safety company in the business. Move aside Volvo! The big jump in auto safety has been the introduction of extremely acurate computer simulation systems, ergo, any self respecting automaker can buy time or own one. Honda has gone further by building the most advanced auto safety testing facility in the world. As in essentialy all endeavors that Honda is involved #2 is never good enough!
