If you had 6k to spend on Mods for your TL, what would you do?

I recently purchased my 05 TL AM and have approx. 6K to invest in her.

So far I have done a few small things such as: adding the full carbon fiber interior, spoiler, takeda CAI and blue LED interior.

I am new to acurazine and have been looking at numerous threads and am gathering ideas as to what is out there and available for the 3rd gen tl, but I would love some input from the 3rd gen community as well!

Pics and or links would be useful as well.

Easy.

Appearance: A SPEC body kit (A SPEC Type-S Rear), Tein SS Coilovers, Type-S light conversion, JNC cleared/blackened headlights

~$2400

Performance: XLR8 J-pipe, ATLP Quad Tip Exhaust, CAI, RV6 PCD, RV6 Test Pipe, Progress RSB, Stock Size UR Pulley

~2400

$4800 right their not including installation, so if you get someone to do it all for you, you're looking at $1200-1400 for installation for everything. If you do the installation yourself, you should get some A SPEC gunmetal/silver rims or some lightweight performance rims or some volks.

http://r-.ecrater.com/
www.excelerationperformance.com
www.acuratlparts.com
www.heeltoeauto.com ALL VENDORS HERE ON ACURAZINE, SO YOU CAN TRUST THEM
www.hondaacuraworld.com FOR GREAT SERVICE AND FAST SHIPPING!

Hard to post pictures for you, since their are a lot of items. You can easily check out the Photograph Gallery section or Search!

You're looking at a ~270ish WHP possibly slightly more and a pimped out car.

Or you can just get a T/C that is worth $5700 and get a $400 custom exhaust and get about 357whp.

^ Nice response. 6K will get you pretty far with mods. Take a look through all of the threads and see what you like best, and what's more important to you. Also check the black market for some used pats that will save you big. Welcome to Azine. Post some pix, so we all know what your working with.

If I were in your position, I'd invest all 6 grand into either: Performance, or Appearance. I wouldn't split it up, if I had to do it all over again.

Personally, I'd do appearance since the TL already has decent power, and If performance was what you were looking for, you wouldn't have bought a TL right? Then again, I could be wrong? The list i've compiled below is rough estimate prices for brand new items i've run into from my experience. (The Black Market is definitely a great place to start)

Aero Kit:
RonJon, Base A-Spec, and Type-S A-Spec, and of course, any of the above combinations.
Example: RonJon front and sides, and A-Spec rear.

The RonJon full body kit will total out to about $2600-$3000 after all said and done.
The A-Spec's, you're looking at about $800-$900 painted before installation.

There's plenty of DIY's on here that can save you the labor cost.

Suspension:
For suspension, I'd recommend getting coilovers, since you have the money for it, and It will definitely not let you down.

Megans: $700-$800 [the affordable coilover with dampening]
Tein Basic: $800-$850 [non-dampening]
Tein SS: $1000-$1100 with the option to add the EDFC [electronic dampening]
H&R Street: $1100 [I have these, and I love the ride, but don't recommend them]

Headlights / Tail lights:
Lots of options here. I'd highly recommend looking at JnC's custom light's thread <--Click there
If you'd like to do the work yourself, there's also DIY's on here that will guide you. If you decide to clear them out, I'd recommend LED switchback's for your turn signals, and 6k HID headlights to match the switchbacks.

Wheels:
Do not settle for cheap wheels!! I prefer 19" because I think it fits perfect w/ the 3rd gen TL, but thats me. Some personal wheel favorites for me are: HRE, Volk, Auto Couture, Lexani, Weds, WORK... it's not a short list, but you get the point, so I'll stop there.

Small exterior mods you can add to the appearance is tint, sarona roof spoiler, atlp roof spoiler, black roof (painted or vinyl). Personally, I'd remove the stock spoiler and get a decklid lip spoiler. Hope this helps! Happy modding!

Welcome to the site. Personally, if I had the money to blow, I'd go for stuff that made my car stand out from the rest. Custom bodykit, T/C setup like Champ mentioned, CF trunklid, or maybe hunt down a pair of those Asian market power folding mirrors. Not knocking the other mods, but go for originality.

Suspension (Spring+shocks, coilovers, RSB), ASpec Body kit, 19" rims, Type-S tails and side markers, CAI, Quad Exhaust and interior/exterior LEDs, cleared headlights. That would do it. I wish i had 6g to blow on mods :druel:

This guy is all wrong.

Tim @ Honda Acura World.com for kit and call him for a better price.

No Comptech S/C unless you know cars, you don't want a incomplete forced induction kit. If you have money or want your car fast, get the T/C, a complete kit.
Koni Sports/HR Springs are rough, and very bad (drove one before)

I'd keep that money for a rainy day don't blow it all at once on something that depreciates every single day

x2... Cut that budget in half and stick with the basics:

* A-Spec Underbody Kit (base or Type-S rear, your preference depending on type of exhaust you want)
* Springs/Shocks (Koni adjustables), or for more versatility, coilovers
* Intake/Exhaust mods (you've already got the intake, find a decent performance catback exhaust to complement it)

You'll be pushing 3G right there. If you insist on spending more, some of the other suggestions noted above will get you to 6G in no time at all.

Is the car paid off? Is that why you have 6k in disposable income?

Use half to get some nice wheels and lower the car. Use the rest to make a house or car principal payment. These are the days we live in.

6K won't be enough for a turbo. You've got to add battery relocation, mounts, meth injection, boost control and gauges to the tab. Close to or over $1K on top of the kit depending on what you get.

You could go with just the kit but I think you'd be asking for problems.

Not sure why the fiscally responsible people hang out here. Nothing we do is justifiable financially. We should all be driving Kia's or a Prius.

Mr. KnowItAll, I was just giving the fella some suggestions because he asked for it. It's just to let him know what's available out there and the different possibilities. Buying those parts or not is totally up to him. Those are the numbers I found, once again because he asked for prices, and if you don't think they're good prices/parts that's your opinion. Ultimately it comes down to taste and preference, what works for you might not for me and vice versa. Have a nice day. Sorry for derailing this thread.

I would and did go supercharged. $3000 for a good used blower. Add to that a free flowing exhaust and you have 100 extra HP. look in the blackmarket section Ussi is selling one. Regardless of what people say the TL is very fast with the supercharger, and with a tune and some Methanol injection it is ready to go.

Show just gets you pulled over, go on the other hand makes your daily drive more fun.

One more thing... Outside of a track environment, I'm not sure why someone needs a blower on their car except for bragging rights. If you have no intention of spending any time on an off-road course or in competitive sport, spend your money on aesthetics. You can look good driving down the road without looking silly trying to apply that extra HP/torque gained with forced induction when the top speed limit can't be over 75 mph on any given public road.

But what do I know?

show also gets your car stolen, make it a sleeper.
Also s/c is not imcomplete and turbo is not complete. They are both modifications done to the car that without experience can get you into cost fixing the car. There are plently of people with s/c without any problems and the turbo kit has been worked on for a long time and comes with alot of necessary things, but either or you are changing your car and when you do one you got to do another i.e. exhaust to breathe better and so on. Since ussi is selling a s/c used and used is fine i would do there becuase with turbo kit you will need like rntl says atleast another 1 k on parts then another 500-1000 on a custom 3" exhaust. I would do some nice 1k rims or a-specs with the kit = 2k. Intake/ pulley and j-pipe and/or not pre cats those will make you around 3-4k and nice tasteful looks with 2k to spare with some more power.

To be honest I would save your money, especially if you dont have the car paid off. Nothing like having a paid off car, then do mods or put them to something that will make money, via stocks,bonds,houses,gold....

If I had 6k to spend and wasn't under warranty my list would be:

Led Interior Bulbs
Tint
HID reverse Lights
4300k HID fogs
Supercomputer Pedals
JNC Headlights (blacked out, ZKW-R lens)
JNC Tails (smoked inside)
Tein SS + TLS tophats
Tein EDFC
EDFC Compatible Strut Bar
Ingalls f/r camber
Progressive RSB
A-Spec Kit
Ebay Trunk Lip Spoiler
ATLP resonated exhaust + jpipe
AEM Cold Air
Wheels and Tires (preferably something with an agressive offset and some tire stretch)

Ok... so thats MY wishlist... but it should give you ideas

Or you could of jus gotten a civic and have 15k mod money? make that into a le mans car and go vroom vroom..

i say just use the money to pay off the car note. Then earn more for the turbo, so incase you blow your engine ur not scraping plates for money .

some of you guys are saying he should be responsible and save it or invest it. i don't think anyone knows him personally. maybe he has ton of money in the bank and is being/has been responsible and that's why he has $6k to play with. maybe $6k to him is nothing. just saying...

personally, i wish i had $6k to play with, who doesn't

IMO spending the full 6k into modding your car wouldn't be a smart move. I think you should check the forum out and if you see anything in here that you absolutely HAVE to do to your car then go for it....otherwise just save your money.

Thank you for all the input and feedback!!!! Regarding saving the money... The car is paid off and my family and are financially sound and responsible, I work in finance professionally.

Cars are my hobby, my passion, what I love to do in my spare time. My wife and I have two beautiful girls and I sold all my toys when they were born to provide all the little things needed for children and now that they are a little older am able to have my toys again, i.e. my car. If you look at my profile I have a photo album of my prior two project cars. My GTP had everything done, installed myself, and was all show and all go.

I prefer to stay away from the performance side of things with my TL because most who do heavy modding to the performance of a vehicle know that a daily driven highly modified vehicle tends to see more problems than benefits in this area. I think I am planning on sticking with the CAI and possibly a cat-back exhaust.

What I am currently thinking about is:

Ron Jon body kit ( I love the clean edges and the uniqueness of the kit without going too outrageous plus I see a lot of A-Spec kits on the road here in Denver);
Cleared headlights (will do myself);
Type-S Tails;
Grille Modification (not sure if I want to body match it or chrome with a reverse body match inseam);
07 rear side markers;
Wheels and tires.

I see several posts saying they would add coilovers, shocks or other adds to the suspension. Is there a particular reason for that. My TL rides nice and does not feel to stiff or mushy turning accelerated turns but maybe I am missing something?

Again, thanks for all the feedback and the welcome to the forum lots of good conversations here.

Coming from someone with a RJ bodykit, I drove around for 4 months with it not lowered. I thought everything was fine. But honestly, once you lower it on coilovers with a progress rsb, it makes all the difference in the world. Like driving a whole new car, and makes the TL more enjoyable due to the handling of your vehicle. Besides, who wants a 2.5" gap between their wheels and the fender? NOT I!

Thanks TimTim! And thanks for all the input above, I appreciate it. I noticed you did reside in CO at one point? Is that correct?

Quick Reply: If you had 6k to spend on Mods for your TL, what would you do?
