Ice driving

For all you RWD fans I just drove My 6sp on a road of glare ice. Im happy to announce that the only car not in the ditch was my TL. The stablity systems and the ABS on this car are most definitely without peer. Nobody was getting anywhere. Put the car in second gear and gingerly took off. Everybody else was just spinning their wheels. This car was treading confidently, albeit very slowly, where a bunch of four wheel drive cars were stuck beyond help! And that was with the regular turanzas! Ill let you know about snow real soon It's on its way!!!!

Makes me feel better, vtechbrain. It's unusually warm for late November here in Cleveland (we've usually had a substantial snowstorm by now), so I haven't had a chance to test VSA yet. Sounds like another idea for a TL TV ad. RWD....phooey!

My 6MT will have the HPT option, and will therefore be useless in snow/ice...I will let you all know how the snows work (probably Pilot Alpins or Blizzaks or Pirellis). It should be just great if the Turanzas are that good (which surprises me).

I dont think the tires were the big factor here although they were acceptable. It was the FWD augmented with advaced VSA ABS TCS and dynamic brake proportioning. The level of integration and sophistication of those systems in the new acuras (TSX and TL) are simply amazing.

Can't wait to hear about your first encounter with ice or snow. Be careful!

You do not drive on HPT (sumnmer rubber) in the snow. No TC will help. You need snow tires.

A little story from Thursday. I live in Spokane, WA and we got our first snow - about eight inches. It started when it was about 33 degrees and then the temperture dropped to the low 20's making it incredibly icy. To get to a certain section of town that's on a hill, you have a choice of four roads each of which is a 20 to 35% grade. I have Vredestein's on my car with AWD so I made it up the hill with no problem. There were at least a dozen cars with all-season tires stuck at odd angles on the side of the road with their flashers on. No one without dedicated snows made it up the hill that night. If you live where it regularly snows and ices you need dedicated winter tires. All the electronic elves in the world can't defy physics.
