I won the lottery

I thought I'd share this story with you guys.

It was Friday night, about 2AM (saturday morning technically). I was driving back from Philly to my house. I had just dropped off some friends and we went our separate ways. I was driving on 322 West to get to Rt 1 for those that know these roads. I was talking to my gf on the phone and driving nicely. I see a cop that had pulled someone over on the opposite direction. I didn't think anything of it and was still on the call. A minute or so down the road, I saw blue reflective stripes out of the corner of my left eye. I slowed down, but it was too late. He turned on his lights, and came up my tail. :cop:

I pulled over and he came up. He asked me where I've been, and why I was in such a hurry. The usual questions I guess...I've never been pulled over. I told him that I wasn't realizing how fast I was going because I was on the phone with the gf. By this time, we were in a gully and I had lost all reception. He told me I was doing 71mph in a 45 zone. 26 miles over the limit. OUCH. He said, it meant 3+ points, a fine and a departmental hearing. The result of any departmental hearing results in a 15 day suspension of my license.

I thought I was screwed for sure. Then he says, so this car really flies huh? And he said, drive slower and I was let go. WOW

Just curious, why didn't you just set the cruise control on 50? I use the CC all the time, especially if I'm talking on the phone, and even on short 10 mile trips in the city.

Cruise control? what's that? haha. I seriously didn't think I was going that fast. I guess it was also 2am in the morning and I wanted to go to bed. I don't like using cruise control on that road because if deer jumped out infront of me, the reaction time is longer to tap on the brakes.

Not sure what you mean about the reaction time, but don't you think going 22 MPH slower with the CC on would kind of negate any concern about reaction time?

that's why I like the TL...when people look at it...they (cops) think it's a luxury sedan...so they are nice and let you go ...if you were in a g35c, you'd probably gotten a ticket..

I'm still hung up at the fact that you're 26 and this is the first time you've been pulled over...ever. That's awesome...and you're first experience you get off...maybe you should play the lottery!!

I use CC all the time, especially when reaction time is critical. For example, there's a winding stretch of road on my commute where deer like to hang out. I set my CC for five over the limit and hold my right foot just over the brake pedal ready to mash down if a deer jumps out. This would be faster than moving it off the gas and onto the brake, if even by a few tenths of a second.

I use the CC in 25 zones to keep my speed at ~30, too. Otherwise, it's far too easy to let my speed creep up into ticket range.

Congrats on the ticket escape!

Well I wasn't that lucky....I was driving to work last Friday and I was late because got stuck on traffic....when traffic opens up I get behind this van that was doing 40 km/h on a 60 km/h zone (sorry guys, I'm from Canada), anyway as this A..hole was driving so slow on the fast lane I changed the lane and accelerated to pass that moron and guess what....a cop was down the road pointing his laser gun to me!
It was too late to react in any way, so I get pulled over and he says:"where is the fire?Your were doing 90Km/h on a 60 zone!"
To be honest with you I don't know when this car got from 40km/h to 90km/h all I can tell at this point is that it happened incredibly fast.
I got this car 3 months ago and I didn't realize how fast it was.
Hope my insurance will not increase too much!

Deer in Philly? Oh you mean a 'DEARr'! Ya, they jump out at me all the time. Especially the Blond ones. They get confused easily!

Congrats on the ticket escape!

If I hold my right foot over the brakes all the time, my legs start to cramp. That's the main reason why I don't use the CC.

I don't think I'll ever get that lucky again.

Yeah, this stretch I'm describing is only about five miles long (at 55 MPH), so no leg cramps. On longer stretches, I rest my foot on the gas pedal, but not pressing it.

I hate to throw a damper on this love fest, but speaking as another driver, someone driving 26 miles over the speed limit while talking on the phone scares the hell out of me. And you're talking about reaction time?

They did tests and found that HFL (Hands Free Link) does nothing to prevent drivers from being distracted on cell phones.

Even odder, talking on the phone is more distracting than talking to a person next to you in the passenger seat.

Yes what they found was that talking on the HFL, your hands are free to do other stuff. That's why it's more dangerous.
