I wasn't watching...it went past red!

Ugh! So, long story short, went up against an rx-8 (so cocky!); i wasn't watching on the first CASUAL run up to the speed limit (before we hit the tracks), and i pushed past RED; the car jerked and made that "whaa whaa whaaaaa" sound (so i went ALL the way). I'm looking for some answers! I've tried my best to pamper her with the best engine fluids, products, etc. but i'm gonna guess that none of that really helps against well...the engine going BOOM! Thinks there's anything in particular I should keep an ear out for? I know redline has to do with uh...revs that...something in the engine goes around...a crank? and redline = fastest it can go...so there could potentially be...like..."breakage"...loose...ness? LOL WTF?!LSJF;lsadj;lsdjf THANKS GUYS! hahaha

you hit the rev limiter, that doesn't cause damage. Do you have an AT or MT? No matter what the transmission though, there is a revlimiter at 7k RPM, and i doubt that 500 RPM can cause motor blow damage, because these cars do have saftey margins in case this happens. If you are worried about anything being damaged, just let the car sit for a day or two or drive it very lovingly, like accelerating slowly, not pushing it hard etc.

It's actually an automatic, but i was sport shifting? it went from 1st to 2nd and then all the way up; I had no idea that our cars had rev limiters; i thought the "bouncing" was from revving PAST this "limiter"...err all the way to 9 (max?)...thought we only had one while the car was in N or P...INTERESTING!

PHEW! i'm relieved! thanks so much for your input! i'll be sure to go easy for the next few days haha

If the engine ever thinks you may have damaged something
it goes into safe mode and you only get 2500 rpm to limp to the dealer

Thats stuttering was the rev limiter and the only way to cure it is upshift
Learn to watch and feel when to shift
that rx has a rpm redline you cant match with a skillfull driver, on the short run you win, on the roadrace track.....!

I used to (and still occasionally) bounce off the rev limiter when I'm not paying attention. Don't sweat it!

With an AT and the rev limiter you should be OK according to the others. Others with MTs that "found second" when really looking for fourth have mechanically over-sped the engine and floated/damaged their valves. You would notice it as a really rough running engine.
