I think it may be the end.

Had it 7.5 years. The ice queen claimed it today.

How much for the rims?

Sorry, I had to. R.I.P. Glad you're alright though! (are you?) Where in Chicagoland did this happen? The roads were shit this morning, the snow melted and froze into ice.

This was the 294/90 merge just before the toll into the city. Rounding the ramp, the road went abruptly from clear to sheet ice. The SUV in front of me went off, I braked as much as I could and went neutral to try and ride through it. Tires had nothing. SUV spun in the ditch between the merging lanes. I clipped it on my way directly into the opposing guardrail. It was a pretty hard hit. 50mph maybe? Once I stopped I saw a Prius there too that hit a pole and much have gone off moments before. While we were talking to police, etc another guy came by and hit one of the snow plows that had parked between us and the ramp. I'm okay. Just a little bruised. As I was leaving the road I knew this was going to be bad and tried to relax my muscles as best I could. Other than a little bruising where the seatbelt was I seem okay. Little sore, but that's about it.

Not sure what I'm getting next. Waiting for the insurance to officially write it off, but repair looks unlikely. Not too worried about insurance rates. I'm old enough and married enough that this won't change it too much.

Holy shit I drive exactly the opposite every morning, 90W to 294N. I know just the spot, you were headed on 294S to inbound 90 and crossed no-man's land between the merging lanes?? I drive that every day going home and have imagined that scenario before because of the downhill curve. Thank goodness that there wasn't ice higher up on the ramp because you could've been airborne and rolled. It's a shame about the car, but really glad you're alright: this could have been much worse.

Sorry man...yeah that whole area at that junction us a mess...a construction van and I merged into each other once there...today was tricky too with the weird random patches of heavy slush and ice.

Were the Continental DWS tires good in winter conditions, other than your accident? I understand that nothing works well on ice except studs.

Best all seasons I've had in winter. No problems with the tires. Maybe if I had winter tires on.... maybe.

So I work a few miles north of 90 on 294. Saw the crap weather coming in and decided to work from home today. When it didn't get that bad, I considered going in, which would have had me in the same area. Guess I'm glad I stayed home after all.

Sucks to see it go down like that to a damn snow storm in mid March. I'm sure it served you well, and hopefully the next car will too!

Glad to see the TL did its' job and kept you safe. I'm sure it's totaled. There's just one thing left to do. Get another 3G TL!! Maybe a Type-S?

!!! Damn! Sorry to see this. Hope it wasn't anything more than being sore from the seatbelt. With adrenaline, many times you feel fine at the scene and you realize more aches later (i.e. whiplash.) It definitely does look like a hard hit by the way the front bumper beam looks. Obviously the radiator is gone and it looks like the engine got something. Most probably a total loss. RIP.

One of the biggest fears I have is this same scenario. Other people will tell you "You have insurance etc. etc." But they don't understand. Nothing can replace all the damn hours and energy spent on all those mods. In my case the entire front end is custom, nothing really stock. Sigh.

Maybe you can get a beater for awhile before the TLX comes out.

Had DWS as well, great all-seasons.

Yah. All the work I put into paint is gone. I doubt I'll get any money out of them for the suspension, etc and other stuff I don't have replacement bits for. If I got another 3g I'm not sure I'd have the heart to do all the work I'd need to get it back in the same place. I'd probably have to take a week off work just to strip and transfer.

Top replacement options right now are a IS350 (though unfortunately probably a last gen body style), MB c350 sport, bmw 335i, or g37 IPL
Probably go drive some cars this weekend. Just not feeling the 4g that much.

4 wheel drive wont help you in sheet ice unless you have chains or studded tires. As evidenced by the 4runner which was involved in the OP's accident. Snow tires can only do so much at 50 mph in a curve on ice. from time to time you'll see a 4wheel or a subaru in one of those ice crash pileup videos on youtube.

Glad you're safe OP, the TL kept you in one piece till the very end.

+1 on doing its job and keeping you safe, but it's still tough to take if you have a lot of work into it, plus the roads were clear and dry by early afternoon too.

Sucks about the car, it was the same here yesterday, went from 60 to 20 so all the melted snow left ice everywhere. The good thing is the car was engineered well enough to keep you safe. Definitely makes me feel like I picked the right car, I had an accident in an older full frame Caprice that I should have died in so I was reluctant to go to a unibody car (my first one), seems like they're hit or miss on the structure. Seems like proof enough you should get another.

Yup. I have no issues with the car. It was flawless pretty much, and that's why I kept it so long. Just after over 7 years with it I have a little bit of an itch just for something different anyways. Time to scratch it. I just wish I could have waited another year or so. So many models I'm interested in are getting major revisions released in the next year or so.

Wow, very sorry to see this but glad you're ok. It's sad to see one of the few originals gone. I got my '06 in Dec of '05 and lately I've had this overwhelming feeling mine is not going to be around much longer. Hopefully it's just paranoia. Do you plan on hanging around still?

Well, hopefully it doesn't go like mine at least. I'm sure I'll check in once in awhile. Too bad the 5g isn't out, or I might have just moved on with that.
