I never noticed this before ...

Probably because I never was considering purchasing an Acura in the past.

I was looking at an Acura in front of me at a stoplight, and a neuron must have fired, because I finally figured out what the Acura logo represents ...

Calipers!

I always thought it looked like an inverted Honda symbol with a bit more of an edge. Of course the TL will be my first Honda/Acura product ever so I know little or nothing about the symbol.

You, GotJazz, however know your schnit when it comes to stereos!! Thanks for the informative posts!

Acutually I think it represents a compass (not for telling direction, but for inscribing circles and measuring).

They are calipers.

Gobig a compass is a caliper with a scale for measuring the angle and a writing implement on one end!
Precision is the reproducibility of a result, accuracy is how close to the actual dimension a measurement is.
Class over for today!

Hmmm... I learned this from Consumer Reports years ago... oh well

Yeah, most people don't realize they are calipers (except the engineers I know).

Sad part...I'm a Civil Engineer. We just never used calipers in our type of work. Primarely the Mechanical Engineers used them.,

Yes, the press release when they changed was that of a "precision" instrument (caliper) and still looks like an “A" for Acura. goes with the precision crafte automobile thing. LOL!

Early Legends had no stinking badges (wish they were not present now too), who cares about a badge!

I never would have thought that I would see a textbook definition of accuracy and precision at acura-tl.com! Kudos, vtechbrain!

Thanks for starting this thread. It's good to learn this...

Also, it means a lot, the upside-down "H"onda, and the #1 car maker in the list when you search the brands...

The logo isn't the most visibly attractive out there, but it's far from the ugliest.

Still, I think the way Acura molded the Honda H into calipers in the shape of an A is brilliantly subtle.

Honda probably wanted one to make it easier to share parts between the Honda (rest of world) and Acura (US) lines.
