I let my little brother drive my TL for a week.

Okay, so I lent my little brother take my TL for a week...and now that I have it back...it feels like shit....

1.) I have this clicking noise in my clutch which I didn't have before. Is my clutch gone? Do I need to replace it? When I'm in neutral and I step on my clutch pedal it clicks and on the way up it clicks...

2.) Before I lent my brother my car, my gear box felt smooth and when I was in a gear and touch the stick, it wouldn't wiggle or anything, but now, when I'm in a gear and I touch the stick it wiggles and shakes and feels like there's a lot of space, it doesn't feel as stiff as it did before. (btw I know stiff and stick makes this thing sound :ghey

What can I do? I don't know about #1, but I think for number two might have happened because he might've grinded gears a couple times.

Help...thanks

Keep driving it and if it still seems off bring it into the dealer and ask them to take a look at it. That's about all you can do.. cannot undo something that has been done.

Yikes...

Your description of things doesn't sound good.

I'd suggest you have the trans fluid changed ASAP, but that may only help a little.

I'm thinking you're going to find some schrapnel in the transmission from chipped gears and or synchros.

If it's feeling sloppy shifting and vibrating that may indicate some damage to the synchros.

The clicking you hear/feel (?) from clutch might be the switch that disengages the cruise when the clutch is depressed. If the clutch pedal was popped hard enough it might have damaged the switch.

You should have it looked at by the dealer and throw yourself on their mercy and hope they'll do repairs under warranty if it comes to that.

Sorry to hear about your car. Mine's an AT, but I'm still the only one that drives it.

I think this issue has less to do with your brother than you think. I have a 2004 with 7400 miles and my clutch recently started this clicking as well. I mentioned this to the service tech the last time I was in and he advised that there was a similar issue with the 2004 Accord manuals as well. The issue requires the entire master cylinder be ripped and replaced. I also for the first time had difficulty putting the car into first gear the other day as well.

One issue I do not experience is the shaking of the stick shift. For that you may want to beat him!

i've had a hard time putting mine in 1st gear about 5 times (had car for 3mths now), what's up with that? and because of that, when i'm the first car at a light, i watch for the other traffic lights when they turn yellow so i readily put it in gear..

Why would you let a younger brother drive your 40k investment?

Use this opportunity to pour some Specialty Formulations MTL-P 75w-85 in the MT.

They have an excellent fluid that has worked very well in Honda/Acura appliactions.

The main advantage of the Specialty Formulations fluid is that its TBN is over 13, compared to just 4-5 for the Redline MTL.

This means that the TAN number will not rise to a point where the fluid becomes unusuable over longer periods (30-40K). The main disadvantage of the Redline MTL is that it rarely lasts longer than 20K, since the TAN number is often sky high by around the 20K mark, thus the fluid is no longer suitable for continued use.

I'm pretty sure that the TL's MT capacity is about 2.5 quarts. Order the 1 gallon container from Specialty Formulations for $28.95+shipping, so that will set you back around $44.

Its slightly more than Redline MTL (which is about $9-$10/quart), but it is well worth the extra for its extended life and super silky shifting.

OK, now I have two things to say. 1: Those hummers are designed to last 15 years under heavy operating conditions, which does not include being blown up, but rather exposed to some harsh sh-t. And after being in Iraq he deserves to get to ride around in a nice TL, I say hes earned it(that is if he was/is on our side)

** We interrupt this veering thread to revert back to the original topic **

I just had the clutch master cylinder replaced on my clicking 6spd 04 TL, and it is smooth as silk again. There is a TSB for the 6spd Accord, which also applies to the TL (sorry don't have the number). My dealer was aware of this and replaced it at no cost.

Car has 7400 miles.

** We now return you to discussions about Hummer transmissions **

Can you get us this TSB number? I have the clicking clutch problem and they already replaced the cruise control switch. Mine only clicks in the afternoon, when it's warm? Odd...took them two trips to the dealer just to duplicate the problem.

Are you referring to the TSB 2004 Honda Accord V6 3.0
M/T - CLutch pedal noise/Notchy feeling?

I called acura and they said that it is only for the accords not for the TL's

Any can update this? bc i also get a notchy feeling when i put the car in 1st gear as well....thx

I wish I could. The Acura dealer was already aware of the issue as they had run through the master cylinder replacement on 2 6 spd TL's prior to mine. I checked the receipt and it does not reference the TSB number either. It simply stated 'replace clutch master cylinder (TSB)'.

The TSB according to the dealer applies only to the clicking noise (which is audible externally) and the notching in the clutch itself (not the shift gate).

I initially experienced on hot days as well (we get plenty here in FL) but then it started to occur each and every time I drove the car. The first time I brought it in, they sprayed WD40 on it!! I was like thanks

They replaced the MC 2 days later

I doubt that is unique to your TL. I had that happen from time to time on my 1997 Accord EX, and my brother says it happens every once in a while on his 1996 Civic DX. We've both found that when it happens, if you just put it into second very briefly, then shift into first (all before you start moving), it works fine. Don't know why it does that, though.
