I just hit 29,000 miles - Only Oil changes ?
Hey TLers
First an update on my cracked Oil pan, My mechanic replaced it with a new one and the car seems fine.
Other than Oil changes I really haven't changed or done anything to my car.
Acura told me i Need my 30,000 mile mini tune up? costs 599$
Includes rotating tires, lubing, inspecting all gaskets and seals, and some other stuff that I cant remember right now.. Have any of you guys done this to your car ?? My personal mehcanic told me that all I need to do right now is change my Air filter.. What else is necassary for my car right now ?
Thanks all

I just follow the MID. If the display calls for an oil change, my independent mechanic does an oil change for $29. If the display calls for an oil change and tire rotation, my independent mechanic does an oil change and tire rotation for $39.
He always checks fluids and takes an overall inspection of the car. In fact, during one inspection he noted abnormal wear on my front pads and advised me to take the car back to Acura. They replaced pads and rotors for free.

^ no. You don't need all that, change your air filter. Grab some bottles of Honda Automatic Tranny Fluid ($8/Qt) from the dealership and change it at your cheapest local mechanic. Have the mechanic rotate the tires and that's basically all you need.

The TL's MID will tell you about oil changes, tire rotations, etc. Your manual will list other service items at 30,000 and 60,000 miles. I think the first recommended transmission fluid change is at 60K, and then every 30K thereafter (or was that the coolant...I don't have manual in front of me).
At 30K, you are looking at engine air filter and cabin air filter replacements in addition to oil change, tire rotation and visual/aural checks of brakes and undercarriage/suspension. I may have forgotten something, so check the owner's manual or the Acuralink info where you registered your car, which also has maintenance schedules and explanations. If you don't DIY (do it yourself), get a good independent mechanic (i.e. not Jiffy Lube or commission-based chain) to do the work and save 40-60% from dealer rates.

$599 is a total rip off. Use your mechanic if you trust him/her. I wish I had one I could trust that much.

Good work!

My 04 is at about 22K miles and has yet to have anyone but me changing oil and rotating tires. My recommendation would be similar to every one else here. At 30K have your mechanic perform a fluid change on the transmission, check air filter, and rotate tires/change oil if need be.. He can also perform all of the other visual checks that are applicable.. Check out the DIY section for the cabin air filter. If it's never been changed you will most likely find that it is quite dirty at the 30K point..
As I have said many times here.... Take your car to the dealer for warranty work only. Anything else and you are (in near all cases) paying way to much...

Is there a reason that they replaced the rotors and pads for free? How many miles were on the car? What were the details on this?
