I just did my door handle mod and paid next to nothing

I just went to the dealer today to get my door handle cover expecting to order it and pay more than i did. But they had it in stock and it was only $13.34!! It really surprised me. It made my black friday trek with all the bad drivers worth it. I came home and put it in and now my door handle mod is done.

The front driver-side door is the only door with a key hole. If this is the "keyhole delete" mod I've heard about, it sounds like they replaced the keyhole segment off the front with a blank one from the rear. Basically, it just looks like all the other doors.

So wait, there is a mod to cover the only existing key hole for opening the car in case the auto lock does not work? Ummm not sure if I would want to do that.

If you knew how the cover goes on you would realize if the fob failed its nothing to pop off the cover and use the key.

Here is what you get when you buy the replacement cover. You don't use the silver mounting plate just the painted piece and you can see by looking at this pix the painted cover just clips on. The back of the cover slips under a tab and the clip you see in the pix is easy to get at just by pulling the doorhandle out a bit.

End result

Is this a tool-free removal? And are you able to do this if the lighting is poor?

With my luck, my key fob battery will die at an inconvenient time, when it is dark and I don't have any tools nearby. All I will likely have is just the key fob and TL key.

Thanks.

Here's before and after pics of mine.

I think-all you have to do is pull the door handle open alittle and insert your key behind the handle to get the mod undone.

I havn't needed to take it off yet, but I'm sure you can use your car key to get in there and pick it off...or just carry a screw driver with you all the time jk

Car key, small flathead screwdriver, butter knife---all will work in a pinch.

lucky guys being able to do that for deleteing the key lock, but still having it easily accessable in case it is needed (got a 2g that the whole handle and trim has to be replaced, and you would not even have the key lock cylinder in case of an emergency)

If you look at the pix I posted the rectangular tab is what holds it on .. just pull the door handle out a bit .. slip in a small screwdriver or nail file etc and pry the tab away from the metal part and it just slips off ... to install .. put the rear portion under the rear tab and snap it in place.

This mod is easy to do. I couldnt wait until I got home from the dealership so I did it at Chevron while getting gas.

BTW- if you guys take your car to valet, it might cause a problem. I assumed that they dont lock the doors so i gave them my valet key. Next thing I know one of the valet people was looking for me and said he cant get into my car because there was no key hole.

I just had my car at the dealership for warranty work ( dead battery). I had to pop my "shaved" one off so I could get into the car. I left it off and on the passenger seat when i gave the dealer my car. To my surprise they replaced it with the original one(keyhole), and lost mine. When I picked up my car I noticed this and brought it to their attention. They replaced it with a new "shaved" one, like the one they lost.

this mod was TOO easy. haha like almost dissapointing cause i look forward to installing things. i just got mine in the mail and went out to the car to look at what i have to work with and ended up popping off the old cap with my car key and popping in the new one. took me all of about 23 seconds to figure it out and get it on there

^^Purely aesthetic. You already have the KP Roll Up mod, so the only functionality you may lose is the valet key. If you don't valet your car (I try to avoid it at all costs), you won't even miss it!.

while it is mainly aesthetic, thats not the entire reason why i did it. i go to college in baltimore aka crime capital. i did it as somewhat of a security feature to deter stupid thugs that would try to break into my car. i figure theyd either be baffled when they see theres no keyhole for them to break, or if theyre gonna break in another way, atleast assume that the car has an awesome security system if there isnt even a keyhole, or maybe theyll even think that its a transformer. im banking on them assuming one or more of those.

it also looks sexy, mostly to the owner who knows its there (or not there)
