I just did my 3x3! Still need some help.

Hi. First I want to say thanks to Road Rage for very good diy on Tranny fluid change, j1n for great pictures, and I Hate Cars for soo much good info.

So, here is my story I would like to share

I did my 3x3 today, took me around 3 hours, lol it was hooot.

I drove for about 7 minutes after every fill, and it felt better after each drain and fill. I used Honda ATF DW1.

Here is my problem... My car has 104000, I bought it at 99900. I dont know if the fluid was ever changed, I got code a13. So decided to change it. what Im worrying about is this:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

dont know why, but the oil looked the same after each of drain. I drained 3 quarts at every drain.

Does anyone have any idea whats going on??
Every answer is appreciated

Thanks!

3 quarts at every drain and it looks like that?

kinda odd cause on my 3rd drain and fill i noticed my tranny fluid getting noticeably redder. cherry-ish.

so you did a total of 9 quarts? just asking because the bottles you have picture labeled 1 2 and 3 has me a little confused. are those samples of each drain and fill?

do another 3! and if that doesn't work do another 3!

i'm just kidding. i really don't know. my car only had 40k miles when i changed the tranny fluid. your car has nearly 100k so i can't really use mine as comparison since my fluids were pretty much new still.

but did you notice any improvements at all? o wait nvm i thought you used redline racing for a second.

what color is that fluid? looks purple...

it's possible that the ATF has never been drained, and that's the byproduct of burnt fluid after 100k+ miles.

still...i'm with the other guy. mine was still reddish/pink when i did my 3x3 at 40k.

and you replaced with factory fluid? have you learned nothing during your stay here?

if you do get around to doing another 3quart drain and fill in the future make sure you clean the metal particles from around your drain plug. the inside of the transmission drain plug is a magnet if you didn't know. it's job is to capture mini metal particles that floats around in the transmission fluid. clean it GOOD! all you have to do is wipe it a shit load of times with a shop towel... you'll notice the plug going from a dark grey/black color to a more light grey / steel looking color.

that's if you haven't already. mines at 40k was pretty dirty. can't imagine what it would look like at 100+

I did clean it at every drain. At first one it was just little dirty and had some little metal flakes on it. I talked wit 1st owner and he said that he did it already.. now Im gonna look for a service book I think I have it somewhere.

Damn dude, with that many miles and never being changed... um... doing 3 x 3 in such short intervals, may not be too good for your car.

I would drive for at least 500 miles more, then do a drain again.

Good luck

I hope nothing bad happens... the drain plug didnt have much metal flakes so maybe it will be good, i hope so...

if i knew it was never changed than i would do just like you said, 1x3 every 500 miles or so..

yeah wish me luck i hope it will be good for another 100k or maybe million miles lol

Then you should be good just doing a 1x3 at 5000 mile intervals.

Also, are you doing it in the right holes (no pun intended)

Just seems like a lot of fluid to still be that dark... i dunno

Good Luck

Yes I'm sure I did in in the right holes. I will do fill and drain again in about 5000 miles, if the tranny will make it.

What about the 3 rd and 4th gear pressure switches? I doubt those were changed if the oil wasn't changed for 100K miles...

Agreed. Switches are a must.

On the next swap, do the Redline racing fluid for a 1x3. If it seems to stay more cherry red, you might have been oxidizing the Honda fluid quickly.

94eg! asks a good question, what color is the new DW-1?

the question also to ask is in every drive in between did you properly work the fluid through all the gears. Just because you drove for 7 minutes doesn't excatly mean it went through all the gears.
