I was expecting basically what we have now, but with blue lighting behind cut-out letters. I'll reserve jugdment until I see them though.

OK in the interest of opinions, I too thought it would appear as the OEM with the ACURA lighted up in blue. One of the other posters made a good point, if it has crevices, that is another place for dirt to get in to. I would suggest it be sealed as one solid piece similar to the OEM one. Hope this helps.

This might be a stupid question, but why couldn't we order the sills from Acura and cut them out using a dremel tool? Is one of us courageous enough to try this? I might be willing. Anyone know how much they cost?

Dave -

In this instance I think you would have been better served to wait until the whole unit was in ... when the unit AND letters are in I'm sure it will meet our expectations, but the pics of the sills by themselves may have lost some of the excitement for some of us ..

I still think this will be a kick ass mod, I'll wait until the whole thing is put together and lit up before making up my mind ...

that being said .. thanks for all your hard work in keeping this going.

I too was hoping it looked identical to how my car looks now, except the Acura letters light up blue, just like the OEM but blue lighted letters.

Mod Ron A edit: I deleted your question, and also your other two posts about location. We are trying to keep this thread on course until smitty tells us that supercomputer is an authorized vendor, and supercomputer has agreed to limit his topics to information only, so folks, please don't post inappropriate questions here and wait for the announcement that things are good to go.

I too like the OEM lettering for the sill. Make it look as close to stock is important in my book. The blue lighting to match the interior would make the whole mod look classy.

i will wait till he has a compleated unit... there will be the acura letters in the finished design, there will just be to seperate pecies the steel surrond and the light up portion.... still classy if done right.... wait till he has a whole unit to make your decision

however i too would like it to ba as close to oem as humanly possible

The 2nd one w/ the vents on the sides do look cool, but i rather have the oem look in our car, and by oem it must have those squares around where it says ACURA. keep up the good work

maybe we can take the OEM ones, laser cut those (if anyone can get access to such a machine), and use a think piece of glass underneth, engrave the word acura that exactly matches what you laser cut, and then put blue led's along the side edes or the top/bottom. thing, the light would catch the engraved area. would that be a good idea?

a more sophisticated one would be the have the glass pop upward, and be flush with the laser cut "Acura" on the metal. then right under that, engrave the word acura identicle in position, just on the underside, so the light catches on to that. and it'll light up, so that way u won't have the issue of dirt and such getting caught in the cut out of the metal as one person said earlier.

Guys this is all pre-production. I thank you for all your comments. I am not going to show you guys garbage. This is just the start of how to create this product. There will be a sealed graphic that goes in the empty metal square that looks exactly stock like we said before. What I was trying to get from you guys was if you like what we did or if you want exactly stock. Exactly stock will be alot more work but if that is what you want we will get there. I just wanted to show you what we have to this point. We had to do some sizing test to so this is what we used. Look at my Picture gallery in the earlier thread and see what the finished mustang pieces look like you will be pleased. Ours will look perfect but I wanted to keep you all involved the whole way threw the process. I will post more pics when I have more and you will be able to see the finished product on my car when it is done. We are not going to short change this threw any step. But its not as easy as cutting out a factory sill and then using EL lighting. I am sure any individual can rig it up like that but this will be a perfect fit top notch product with a 1 year warranty. So keep sending ideas and I will keep posting more when I have it. Thanks for all of your input. This will be a quality product as promised created by the TL forum. And with all do respect to the forum and its MODS please dont ask about price or when they are for sale. Its not time for that yet. We will let you know when the product is finished and we have authorization.

Thanks
Dave

Dave,

When you say there will be a sealed graphic in the empty square, will it be an insert into the existing piece of metal or will it be all one piece of metal. I'm asking because you said it'll look very OEM but the OEM doesn't use an insert, it uses one piece of metal which has the laser etching (if that's how they did it) burned into it. Thanks!

It will be inserted into the metal, it slides in from the back. Guys as far as OEM we want the look to be close to original but its not going to be fully OEM, Look at my gallery pictures to see what I am talking about, The product will be done just like they are for the Mercedes and the Mustang. I want the Metal to look as close as possible to stock but the graphic and the finsihed product will not look 100% like a stock sill. But we are going to try to get it as close as possible with the design we are using.

I like the idea of the insert in to the metal. Maybe its not fully OEM, but it leaves room for each person to get more the lettering they want IE... ACURA TL, ACURA, A-SPEC, ETC... If its all one piece, several different prototypes will need to be manufactured vs One piece of metal, with just the insert being changed. Then again if if the skys the limit with your wallets go all out and get it all done in platinum as one whole piece. Super good job so far, maybe when its closer to being complete, show the difference in price of OEM one piece vs the piece with the insert. Im sure they will pretty much look the same and function exactly alike.

Great Work Supercomputers. I just found this thread today. Your prototype looks great. The Notched version add a little more flare than the flat. I cannot wait to see this mod progress

This is the latest reply from smitty, which says it all:

So the ball is in supercomputers court, and when he is ready to pay, he can do business. I don't know what his problem is, but this is the latest info I can give you.

For supercomputers last posts on this subject, on 12/03/2004, which will explain a lot to those who haven't gone back that far, or don't remember it, click here and here.

Just wanted to give you all an update.

Sorry for the long duration since my last post. With my real job and the holidays things have been pretty busy. Well here is the update.

1. Test Plates have been fitted and finalized specs have been sent to the maker. The finished plate is just about complete and will be sent to me for final approval by Feb 7th.

2. Graphics are also being proofed and will be sent to me by Feb 14th, The plates had to be confirmed for size before the graphic and lighted work could be done. 2 Different Versions of the lighted work are being completed "ACURA" Just Like a stock sill and "Acura-TL", Once there done I will take pics and post them here on the board.

3. Ron A is correct as far as the response from Smitty. We will seek approval and pay the fees once there is something to sell at this point it does not make sense for me because this is the only product we will have. So the fees will be paid once I am closer to being done.

4. Release date for a finished boxed product is slated for April 1st. "Never realized how much time goes into all this stuff, There is tons of work and lots of going back and forth with test fitments, Plus for the price I am paying, I am not top priority but there is already over 1800 invested into this project so it will happen we just have to go threw the process.

5. You all have been great and all your input has been used and will be used to finsih this project. Thanks to all the moderators and members for being patient. The product creation life cycle is a long process if you not sure what I mean ask AEM with there cold air intake that we have all been waiting for its up to a year now. We started this project in Oct and I think we are moving pretty fast and are almost there. I told my self when I started this would be a top level product with top level quality and materils. We are very close.

6. Not to beat a dead horse but I dont want to break any fourm rules, I am not autorized to sell and there is no product to sell at this point. Once I have a finished product and I pay the reseller fees I will open an group buy and start the process going. Only when I am authorized and the product is in hand and ready to ship. Please dont ask me about a price or anything like that right now.

Thanks again guys

Feel free to PM me with any questions ou may have.

Ok guys Final Fitment sills are here I need your feedback. Again we tried to come as close to stock as possible. I am out of state on buiness but my brother took some shots for me. I will have them installed on my car this weekend. Let the feedback roll. Good and bad let me know what you think. Acura-TL Graphic is still not complete yet another week. We are almost there.
