Talking I have a New Mod Idea....Again!!!!!

Hey Yall, Its been a while since I came up w/ some craZ ideas for new mods but I was layin in bed last night and I was thinking to myself.....Something is missing......So I go out and check out estelle and I open the door , looked around for a second and the idea hit me! My idea is to pull out the "ACURA" Door Trim and cut out the Acura Letters and replace them w/ LEDs or Lights somehow. I was pretty sure it was possible so I looked around and SURE ENUFF! The AMG Doorpanel mod exists! Looks like this:

What do U guys think?! Im gonna think this one through for a little bit. there way be some drilling, welding, or cutting involved so ill ponder some more and see it this idea is feasible. Its looks NICE!

I love the idea. I remember driving my cousins BMW Alpina and it had the same type of lighting on the door rocker panel. It looks classy. Please post pixs on how to do this mod, once you figure it out.

I'd love to have those in my Acura! That feature alone would be almost enough for me to buy an MB if it didn't cost so much.

Seems like you need an LED strip running underneath the sill plate which needs to be wired. You might need to pull the carpet back and run it underneath that? The LED strips seem to be easy enough to find what with all the computer case modding and custom Tron suits running around. Good luck and keep us posted!

The wiring should be no problem. just finding the materials and fabrications is going to be the tough part. I wonder if theres any room under the current door sill?

i had that on my mb, they sold the whole sill as a set, all you needed to do was get some power and remove the old one.

i wouldn't use LEDs, you would be better off using an organic EL strip, or strips... similar to that neon cable street glow sells

That looks great! If in blue, it would go along perfectly with the overall blue ambience of the TL's interior. eggroll, let us know when you figure out how to do it.

I think what you want are items #15 and 16. If not, let me know and I will look some more.

Ron, I believe those are the actual metal body parts (portion of the door frame), and not the aluminum trim "ACURA" door sill

I think you are right. I will look some more and see if I can find the actual inside trim pieces for the door sill, and let you know if I do find them.

EDIT: Looked again, carefully, and couldn't find them. There must be another part of the Parts List for trim pieces, which they don't publish.

This was a mod some of the MB users do regularly over on MBworld.org. You could probably buy the AMG kits (around $299 I think) for TWO and then use only the lighting component instead of the full kit. Here's a link you can buy these from... http://www.performanceproducts.com/

Here's another site which is cheaper and includes FOUR sills (may make more sense) http://www.formymercedes.com/mb_resu...or+Sill+Covers

Additional comments...
"The factory ones have extensive wiring harness, including 4 green resistor boxes and some other things. I would ask the seller for a pic of the wires. The aftermarket ones just get spliced in. I preferred to do it real MB with warrenty, also, they automatically shut off in 60 seconds or so. All 4 doors light up".

Called the guy from the above link, Seeing if he can make us a few variations, ACURA, ACURA-TL, ACURA A-SPEC, Will see what he can do, Maybe we can get it approved and start a group by if enough people are intrested. I asked him to try and match the color blue to our Dash and to go with the same brushed metal look on mymerceades.com website. What do you guys think I hope he can help.

That sounds great!!!

I had something similar to this in my 2002 Maxima and it looked soooooooo hot!!! I've always wanted one for the TL but never found anything and if this works out, then definitely count me in for the group buy!!!

If you are considering forming a Group Buy, certain procedures must be followed. Please see this link for further information. http://www.acura-tl.com/forums/showp...64&postcount=7

I personally also do not like group buys but would be interested in the price he gives you. My rec is not to bother with the group buy but to simply let us know what kind of price he gives you and then those of us interested can repeat the process. No need for a group buy on something so inexpensive. It would only save around $10 bucks anyway IMHO a group buy is not needed unless the cost is pretty significant.

Guys,

I submitted a request to the site to become an official vendor, I just got off the phone after a 1 hour conversation with the maker of this product.

We are going to make some proto types for the following cars, TL, TSX, RSX, Lead time on these samples will be about 30 days, Once we install them we will take PICS and create instructions. I think this is a great product for our cars the have been an option on Mercedes for years at 600.00. I will probably be able to get them to you for 149.95 or Less and you will get 4 light up door sills. The maker uses the factory door sills and modifies them so we should have a perfect fit. Plus we try to make the color an exact blue match to the Blue we already have. I need to know from you guys what you think the best plate options should be I can only choose 3 per car.

Acura-TL
Acura Logo then A-SPEC
Just ACURA

Let me know if this is a project you guys would like to go forward on. I also need somebody to volunteer there car for the TSX proto type and the RSX one. I will use my car for the TL.

Thanks
Dave

Heya guys. Havent been to this post for a while. II actually took out the sills from my TL, still havent put them back yet. Ive been bringing it to various people to see if they can find an LED light(s) thin enough to fit in the gap but bright enough to have a "cool" effect. Havent had much time lately since im now a senior and I am taking 5 college Advanced Placement classes. but im sure I will find time to finish this project up sooner or later. Thats a good idea from supercomputers. tell me when its available and ill buy it and test it out. I am now MECP certified so It should be cake. Supercomputers, any idea of the schematics of the electricity?Ive been trying to find a source but i couldnt think of anything besides drilling a hole on the underside of the Poly Urethane and running it to the battery but that could be dangerous and complicated (Metal or Obstacles in the path) etc... Tell me what you guys think.

Quick Reply: I have a New Mod Idea....Again!!!!!
